Question of the week? Or Question of the month?

Anybody know what is going on with this? If there wasn't the staff power to support a contest like this, why did it start in the first place?

Exactly what I said to Vikas in my PM, Goudah - I suggested that if we are going to have new features added to the site, that's great - but don't do it unless we have the admin staff to maintain them! It's unfair to everyone to add something like this little contest and then just leave everyone hanging.
My viewpoint on this is that it may cause people to leave when they see that we can't get a response from our Admins because they are so short-staffed right now. Everyone understands about them being short-staffed...but we shouldn't be tossing new features and programs out onto the site if we can't maintain them.
Also - are they going to include ALL the answers that were posted, or only the ones that fall into the one-week time period that was originally set up? I think to include any answers posted beyond that time frame would be unfair to those who followed the rules and posted within the given time.
Perhaps Vikas is out on Holiday? In that case, might I suggest a
Perhaps Vikas is out on Holiday? In that case, might I suggest a short reply in the contest thread to that effect. That might pacify members until the original thread starter is able to unfold the mystery. :D

We were not ready with the interface to conduct the poll for the best answer. Hence couldn't meet the deadline. :( I know it has worried many of you, but now we have it all set and you can see and vote for the responses in the following url:

I want to thank our tech team for their hardwork. Hope it'll run smooth in the coming days.

I have a slight concern - I dont' want to upset anyone, but I was just looking at the votes, and a whole bunch of one liners are getting votes, while the people that took the time to write out a thoughtful answer with pros and cons are not getting them . . . .
It just doesn't seem right that an answer like "Don't take one in the first place" would win over someone that took the time to actually think up some alternatives . . . . .

Yeah, I saw that too . . . . It seems to me that even with things being annonymous, people are voting for their friends.
I don't think there should be a thumbs down. All someone has to do is vote for their answer, then thumbs down everyone else!

Yes, and that seems to trump the other votes. Seems there are a few glitches, I'm sure they will be ironed out.

I for one will not participate in the future if a short, unthoughtful answer wins over a long, though out answer with pros and cons and lots of alternatives. To me, it wouldn't be the best answer winning, but the person that got the most people to vote for them.

The no vote thing has got to go in my opinion . . . I just looked again, and just about every answer has as many no votes as yes votes!
It's ridiculous! I almost want to say Admin needs to pick the winner . . . . They can see which answer is the most complete and thought out answer without playing favorites . . . . Then again, I know Admin is too busy . . . .

Ok what the hell is the point of voting for this if the judge is not evaluating the replies. Let admin us their judgment and remove the vote option & then I may consider participating.

This is just my opinion, What is the point of a no vote? My thought is a no vote is like saying "shut up" or your answer sucked and is not worthy. Why can't there just be a vote button. If you think it is a good answer, click it. There are people who will click no just to be hateful and the no vote thing will eventually discourage participation. I will not participate. Why should I take the time to post an answer and then have someone give me the thumbs down...that is certainly not encouraging so why make the effort and put myself out there for ridicule again.
I agree with you Roxy. Why invite more negativity to this site!

Well, the purpose behind to introduce the voting option was to promote community participation. The idea was to let the community decide the best responder. But it seems that the system may need some tuning.
What do you suggest, Mods??
We would be glad to incorporate any development to make it fairer and transperent. :)

I think community participation is great. However, as long as you get those who are immature, childish and vindictive, anytime you put something that they can do or say negative, they will, such as the thumbs down.
It is a shame that this even has to be discussed. When I came on the boards, we never had these types of problems. Everyone was so encouraging of each other-no back biting, "I'm your friend, but not so-and sos'", etc.
You will have to monitor these things more closely in the future, maybe limit it to members-of course it may not be the guests doing this, and like you say, remove the thumbs down feature.
