After several days of searching deep within my soul I have decided it is time for me to depart from the site for an indefinite amount of time at the end of this week! This is a very emotional and difficult decision but I feel it a necessary one. It is basically based on three separate factors.
The first being the fact that the time I can put in is limited only to my lunch hour during the day. During this time there are so many knowledgeable and capable people on the boards, both veteran and newcomer, that my being there is basically moot. It feels like an overcrowded pool with no room to swim. I have found that I can no longer contribute without trying to beat someone to an answer. This is not Jeopardy, it is a forum designed to give people who need help well thought out and factual answers.
The second reason is more emotional. It has come to my attention, from others among you, that certain people that I have supported and considered friends have gone behind my back and said some unkind things about me. Why? I have no idea! Now when I see these people helping others on the boards it is disturbing and even a little painful to know that they are not genuine. Also the amount of personal attacks between members has escalated as seen today for example.
The third was solidified yesterday by one of the administration on this site. When I found myself in an awkward situation and needed to cash my few points I understood the frustration that others have had. In the past it would take 24 hours and if it was longer Mike was very apologetic and gave a reason for the delay. When 5 days had past and I emailed someone regarding this I was told, “we have received your request, please be patient…” I took that as a very synthetic reply which leads me to believe that at least some of the administration has lost touch with the actual needs of the people it is trying to help giving the site a faint tint of hypocrisy. That is a color that can quickly dominate the landscape if left unchecked. I saw it before in the attitude of a couple of members and administration in a thread previously on the same topic. This site is about debt. Debt is money that people can’t afford to pay. You would think that there might be a chance that those points could mean the difference between getting to work or not.
All said, I would like to thank all of you for your help, support and kind words over the past year. I came hear in a mess and left in a much better place because of you and I will never forget and always appreciate! I will not lose touch with you and may occasionally be back when time allows but for now it is time for this frog to swim off into the sunset.
I will make a formal announcement in the Pub on Friday

I am so sorry. Really really sorry.

I respect your decision. We had some fabulous football conversations during last season, and I was really looking forward to some spirited Parcells debates this season! I will truly miss you.

You ARE valuable. It will be an enormous loss, and I'm very sad.

Frog, I totally understand your decision, and will miss your presence here. I do understand though - I felt much the same way myself not long ago, and was ready to leave, because I felt I no longer had a place here. However, my dear friends here convinced me to stay - and I'm glad I did.

I hope you'll come back when you can. I'll pm you my e-mail - please keep in touch.

I also hate to see you go but do understand about time constraints. Frequently I peek on the boards during the work day when noone's looking and back right out again. I actually locked a thread for Unemployed Ron when I did that (yep, it was NNC again) and told him I could only take a second.
But I really do hope to see you again and hope you come back soon, OK?

Frog--I am so sorry to hear that you are leaving, and wish you wouldn't, but respect your decision.

I know what you man about people going behind your back, attacking, etc., have had that done numerous times myself.

I have had to take a break in the past from here, but Mike has always talked with me and convinced me not to let others run me off. A break may be what you need.

Do be assured that your help and advise is as valid as anyones. That is the beauty of this forum--there are no bosses in the Debt Sams and Moderators. We are all equal and each have something to share with others.

Take Care and please keep in touch..KAren :D

The prevalent reason is the fact that I can only give a limited amount of time and that time is too competetive to make it worthwhile. I am on around lunch time Eastern and there are many well qualified people on at that time who answer all the questions. I stayed to moderate but I found since we are universal maod now there were always enough there also. So like I said before, I felt like I was in an overcrowded swimming pool with no place to swim.
Also I have been very disillusioned by the administration lately. I will still be watching on occasion and hoping I can change the words of the troll to something amusing before anyone gets to read it, as I have done in the past. Yes, that was me. FYI gave me the idea though but advised me against it.

What??? frog!!! I so, so, so understand. I honestly do. I totally respect your decision. However, I will truly miss you, my friend! With all my heart! You do whatever is best for you, frog. And, obviously, you have put some thought into this. It's your decision. I'm sorry to see you go. I honestly think your input is valuable - especially to the Florida members and guests. You have helped many and you have entertained many. You are a very well known member of the forum. Your presence will be missed here. However, like I said, you've given it a lot of thought and you've made your decision. You need to do what feels right to you. I will sooooo miss you, frog. Please don't forget that you can pm anytime. Okay?

Mike and Vikas just iced it for me. It has been Friday to Friday and even though they knew I was in a real bad spot they could not come up with 11.00 that I earned to help me out! That pretty much sucks. They also ignored my last PMs although they did read them. I was a valuable member of this team in my own mind I guess. Now that they think I am leaving apparently paying me is not a priority. I got to work today by the grace of God. It is amazing to me that several members who really can't afford it offered to loan me money. That is true concern and I am truly grateful. If this was my site and someone was in trouble I would have made damn sure they were helped even if I had to dig into my own pocket. I had no problem donating my points in the past. I am making my announcment in the pub today about my departure that was originally only temporary. I am going to seriously have to rethink that part. I will try my best to curb my feelings to the general community. This was not my original reason for taking a break. It was a time constraint issue. But now I see my value here as worthless!

Frog, I am really going to miss you but I don't blame you at all for your decision. Please, also do not feel that you are not valued here because that is so not true. You are an asset to the site and you are going to be greatly missed. I am sorry that this is happening to you and that it has come down to this. It makes me very sad. :(

Thanks Shazzers I am glad you feel that way. I know I have done my share for this community and if I made a difference in the life of one person it is worth all the time and effort. That is why I was here, not for the points. I needed to pay back to this site and help others out of the same situation I came from. I just feel that the managements focus has lost touch with the concerns of its members.

Frog....please don't feel that you aren't valued. You ARE valued, by all of us as Mods...and friends. We are going to miss you terribly.

ADMINISTRATORS:
this is precisely the problem we are facing recently with the site:

-Points are not getting paid in a timely manner
-Important issues go weeks without being addressed when Moderators raise them in the "mods only" forum
-Mods are having to handle the day-to-day management of the site, without the power to handle sensitive issues like the banning of members or guests who attack our members or Mods. (Not that we need that power, please understand, but if the Admins aren't around to do it, it's not done.)
We all understand that you are short staffed with Mike gone - that doesn't really need to be said. But come on, people...we're losing a valued Mod due to lack of response to PM's sent to Admins. That's not what should be going on here.

I'll step off my soapbox now.

Yea this situation truly blows!! If admin cannot keep up,it is time for them to designate some one to handle the board with full control.Since I came back it is like us mods running around putting out fires and unable to enforce board policy because someone creates a new name. then new name is hammering on the board again.

Point to remember: If a guest or member is not comfortable just lurking and reading, they will go elsewhere. The board must be known as a safe place to share before someone will open up and speak of their problems. My two cents.

You know, I agree with you FYI. A lot of us can remember one time when the points caused a very ugly situation on this board. Ever since then I have thought we would be better off without them.

The sad thing is, I think we would lose a lot of people if the points were taken away. That's too bad, because no one can possibly make much money here. I'd hate to lose members, but I think that responses would become much more sincere and answers would be much more thought out and descriptive. I really think this is definitely something to consider.

I agree with Fins and FYI--the points thing has been the cause of many discussions and disturbances. I can't imagine anyone leaving because of not having points--I don't stay here after all this time for the points, but to give back some help and hope, like it was given to me..Just my opinion, whatever it's worth  karen

I will say that those points have saved several of our friends when they were in bad situations.

My most warm memories of this site were donating points for this or that, and helping people in a way that really made a difference in their lives.

Taking away the points won't make the drama go away. But it will take away a very real and tangible way for us to help each other out of tight spots. This being a debt help site, I think the points play a very real role in helping out members.

Taking away the points takes away from our ability to help each other when one of us has an emergency.

Goudah, I definitely see your point on that one, and I considered that also. To me, that's the only downside to the points. And I have to be honest, the points here help support my running...The races aren't cheap, and my shoes that I have to replace every 4 months are more than $100. Plus the outfits...I'd still be able to do it if I didn't have the points, but I've always been glad for the extra little bit!

I guess I just think that we'd find out who really has their heart in this if the points were gone. I remember when you got points for posting in pub, also mods and debt sams used to get double points. I agree with that not being the case anymore, no one should get points just for talking about just anything and mods don't deserve extra.

I wasn't here when that was the case, and I'm glad that changed. I don't think anyone deserves anymore points then anyone else.

I just feel that since this is a site dedicated to helping people get out of debt, that those points really do make an impact on the members lives, and taking that away just takes away another avenue to help people get out of debt. If this site was about anything else, I'd say do away with the points, but since it's about debt and money, I don't think they should close off a way to help others financially.

I apologize for taking the focus off the true subject of this thread - our friend Frogpatch's departure. I didn't intend for that to happen. I was just trying to get Admin's attention and point out that we have some real issues that need attention here, and Frog's leaving is a prime example of one of the problems we have.

Sorry for distracting everyone and starting a different topic on this thread - that wasn't really my intent.
