That is hilarious. I am going to delete it and send my support of the new law. Hopefully others from Ohio will got to the website and they will put their support of the law instead of sending emails saying to keep it. I heard another advertisment on the radio about keeping them in Ohio on my way home. It makes me sick that they do not know what they really do to you.

Esp. for you folks in Ohio or other States which are debating the PDL question; write, call, e-mail your legislators, let them know how you feel. Also write letters to the editors for your local newspapers, send e-mails to TV stations, whatever works. I've gone on a few forums for Ohio newspapers and posted my thoughts. (and, yes, I've referred people there who might be having PDL problems to this site!)

yes and they are burning up the TV with ads! Since last night I've already seen 5 commericals, trying to encourage people to be in favor of the PDL, stating, its ONLY 15$ per 100$...Well we all know how "ONLY $15" has caused us many tears and sleepless nights! NO THANKS!

I know!! Those commercials are ridiculous! I was taking a drink of my soda when one of those commercials came on TV, I almost choked listening to them compare credit card interest, vs NSF at a bank, vs payday loans!!

Imale, I know what you mean! No comment necessary, you've said it all... I read a post on one of the Ohio forums, and a lady was saying she was a responsible PDL user and if they were taken away, what would she do? I got the impression that she was using them a lot, even if she WAS paying them off in 1 pay period. I told her that was the type of person that the PDLs try to ensnare; if you have a PDL and can pay it off in one pay period, fine; but what happens if, during that time, you have a medical emergency and don't have the funds to cover the PDL when it's due? If you use PDls' over and over, it's only a matter of time until you're "caught."

I keep seeing more and more commercials on this in Ohio. It is crazy. I can't believe people would want to keep them. The problem is the ones that don't use the pdl and have not been caught in their web are the ones that say keep pdls in Ohio.

 Okay I see you all have negative thoughts ond PDLS okay fine they can put irresponsible people in a jam... I am not only a employee but also a customer... I have had to use PDL's for emergency situations such as for diapers or medication for my children... I agree they do need to set some kind of guidelines so people can't put THEMSELVES in debt.

Weezer....I am sorry you are an employee of pdl's. And sorry all of my experiences have been negative too so I do not support them. I am not an irresponsible person either. I have tried to tell them I want to pay and not roll over the fees and have tried and tried and they say oh I did not get the fax that you wanted to do that. Which is complete CRAP because I know they got it. They just keep lying and taking your money. Pdl's need to be stopped and I am glad that Ohio is doing something about it. I will say the only downside to it is that 6000 people that will lose the job but believe me there are plenty of jobs out there for them to go too.

I received a response via email from a person who is affiliated with the site sending emails against the new lending law. As I said before, I sent one from that site supporting the new bill. Well, I received a very nasty response from an unknown person, guess I got busted. Oh well.

Shazz. . you are like me. I have written to State Senators in New York and I always forward them info on PDLs that I find here and there. I really don't care how nasty people get, I just keep on sending em'! I think I might just have to send an email as well.
What am I reading?
I have only read the posts on this page but I think this is crazy! I am a Manager of a Payday Lender and can not understand why people are so stupid. First off no one makes ANYONE go to a PDL, it is YOUR choice. If your a responsible adult and know how to make a responsible decision there should never be a problem. Not only do I work for the industry I use them! I have a loan out right now because I came close to overdrawing my account because my dog had to go to the vet. I got a $100 loan to save me from paying $35 in overdraft fees and $5 bucks a day till I get my next check. Now, I could have gotten a loan for $700 but no, I got what I needed. Guess what, I budgeted it out of my next pay so that when I pay it back, it's done. When my customers come through the door I don't make them take the full amount, that is their choice. Kind of like someone having a bottle of pain pills, there are some that will take just what they need and others will take more for the satisfaction. Should we close down the pharmacy's because some people can't use drugs responsibly? You don't have to use it if you don't want to, but this is America and we should have the right to use this product if we chose to do so. I am all for reform but this product came to life because there IS a need for it. Has anyone taken a look at what has happen in the states where the got rid of PDL?? Forecloser. bankruptcies and bank charges hit the roof and put thousands of people out of jobs. So you don't mind paying every ones bills that's going to be out of job when they close us down?? Your going to with your taxes. So thanks in advance!!!!

Hello sickofthis, I can understand your point of view, however, would you mind posting where you found information [facts, not speculations] stating that the foreclosures and bankruptcies in this country have increased due to pdl companies shutting down? Thanks.
I too can understand your point, but I really don't think that N
I too can understand your point, but I really don't think that NOT having PDLs is the reason for the rampant rash of bankruptcies, foreclosures, etc. I, personally, blame the administation in this country for that. With that said let me add this. I don't think any one on this board went into the PDL situation with the intention of shutting them down, or not paying them. The PDLs themselves are the ones who will eventually be the downfall of the business for the way they operate their organization. Most are illegal, soliciting business across state lines and in many states that have clearly prohibited them. Once the money is deposited into a bank account and they have access to that info, it doesn't matter what you say. We are told, you contacted us too late to pay in full, we didn't receive your email and in my case, even chaning the terms from monthly to biweekly without a word on it before Each and every one of us on this board is probably at risk on a daily business of losing a job. With the economy the way it is no one is safe from unemployment. If you are concerned that it might happen, and I would ask why you think that, perhaps you should implement a contingency plan before it does happen. If the PDL business was above board and honest there would be no problem. Fear of something happening sends up red flags to me. As more and more people are becoming educated on the perils of PDLs I suppose losing one's job could be a reality. Let me ask a question. Do you have any facts on how many people that have been involved with PDLs have had to file bankruptcy or lost their home as a result of them? Because of them we fall behind on legitimate debts. It's a vicious cycle and once you are in it's a long journey to get out. And that is exactly what the PDLs bank on when they "invite" you into their web. Sorry, as for me, I have no sympathy for the PDL industry.
Shazz. . thank you. Yes, we all went it to this on our own but
Shazz. . thank you. Yes, we all went it to this on our own but we went in with "blinders" on. Once those blinders were removed we were in so deep that we couldn't see straight. I don't know about you but I have learned a very valuable and costly lesson. If I don't have the funds when a bill comes due, they will wait. I would rather deal with legitimate bill collectors any day than go through this again.

I do not feel sorry for the Pdls either. People losing jobs is not a good thing; however, why would you want to work for an employer that created all of these problems. I for one stand by what we do at my work and am proud of it. I would never be proud to say that I worked for a pdl not after everything I have found out. There are plenty of jobs out there. Heck you can work at walmart, target, fast food and probably make just as much!

Sickofthis, I opted for a pdl with every intention of abiding by the rules. Unfortunately, the pdl lender had other ideas. After weeks of attempting to pay-off the loan, faxing my request as instructed 3 full business days before it was due only to have the faxed request for pay-off ignored, I got fed up & finally went in search of help and found this site. I tried to call the pdl lender...I tried to fax the pdl lender...no responses ever! You think that is a legit way to do business? I would much rather pay my bank $35 for a short in my bank account....at least its once & done.

guest....I agree with you. I had tried many times to pay off the loan but of course I got the same old story that they see to tell EVERYONE which is they did not receive the fax or email or what ever else you send them. That is how they get you. They simply lie about getting information from you even if you have a confirmation that they received it. It is a poor way to do business and that is why they are in trouble. They bring it on themselves.
I say SHUT THEM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I was thinking that the lost of employment, illness in the family,or even worse death was causing people to lose their homes. Ms.or Mr. Manager, I am assuming that you work in a storefront where it is legal to lend to people. 99.9% of these companies are lending to people in states where payday lending is ILLEGAL! They are using the internet to do it. I have truly learned my lesson..........once I get out of this mess I am done with payday loans! :)

about 20 people and myself have been going door to door explaining the new law to people.despite the pdl's lying advertisments.i think the law will pass
What a joke.
My question is.. why haven't the Feds come down on these PDL's for loan sharking? They are doing the same things that the mafia did. PDL loan rates clearly violate Federal usury laws.
Here's a suggestion... place a stop payment on your PDL check. If every one of their victims did that, many of those theives would be out of business in a month.
The mafia would be easier to deal with than the PDLs. Stopping
The mafia would be easier to deal with than the PDLs. Stopping a payment won't do a thing. They will just "morph" into someone or something else and take what they want. If it were as easy as that, this would not have gotten to the proportion it is.
Internet loan sharks
Wanna screw over the internet loan companies??? Close the bank account that you used with them, and open another. Stopping payment on your check works too.

I am supporting the new law in Ohio. I am hoping it passes. I really do wish that it would include more enforcement on the internet pdl's as well. They may be illegal here in Ohio but it does not seem that it is as enforced as it should be. I say this only because my AG rep. said they can contact the company but they can not enforce them to do anything because they are not located in Ohio. Pdl's MUST BE STOPPED!!!

Guest, no one is here to "screw" over any pdl company, we follow the law, and encourage that, we also encourage people to pay back what they borrow. The problem is, many pdl companies do NOT follow the law.
That is right they do not follow the law!!!! We try to pay it do
That is right they do not follow the law!!!! We try to pay it down and they give every excuse they can saying they did not receive anything from us. This has happened all to many times.
Nobody wants to screw anyone over they just want to pay what the LAW states and not be harassed by these companies!!

Since many of these pdl lenders are so tightly linked, I doubt they have a large employee base. I truly do not think there are 6,000 people in this 'industry'. Regardless, I don't care if they all lose their jobs..they are deceitful people....they know what they are doing is wrong.

Why would anyone want to work for someone like that. I guess they do not think about the fact that if they ever get into any needs and trouble that they will be treated the same why that they treat others. And they can't say they would never need to use these companies because some of them do.

mandywebb. . I ask myself that same question all the time. I guess it takes a special kind of person to do that kind of work. I know I couldn't live with myself if I were doing to people what they are doing to the members of this board. I realize that all of us need to eat, but come on. There must be something out there that doesn't involve illegal operations.
