I split this post from Question of the week? Or Question of the month? just because I wanted it to have its own thread. Roxy, I hope you don't mind that I moved your reply over here...
========EDIT===================
There are so many responses, I got tired of reading them all and stopped. :( I will come back later and read some more.
I personally don't like the thumbs down vote option. I feel bad for these people that have -7 and not a single + vote, (and some of their answers are a lot better than the higher ranking posts). Why do we have more negatives on this vote than positives?
That leads me to believe that members are purposely voting everyone else negative just to try to push themselves ahead. Are we so desperate for $50 that we're going to play those kind of childish games? I see A LOT of posts with exactly 3 no votes; off the bat that tells me at least 3 people were going around doing this.
It is also uncanny that I see two particular "leading" posts that have no negative votes, while EVERYONE ELSE has at least 2 or 3 "no's". I suspect these two may be our culprits.
I will go so far as to say that Admin should log who votes for who; and if Admin finds that a person is voting + for themself and - for everyone else, they should be disqualified from the contest or banned.
I also want to state for the record right now that if, by some chance mine wins, I don't want the $50 and admin should direct the proceeds to either AMA or United Way.

You know, I posted my opinion without going to the page and see becuase I knew I would get upset. But after Debt Cruncher's post, I went ahead to look and I have to say I am extremely disappointed in what I saw. I read some and like Debtcruncher I did not have time to read them all and figured I would go back and read the rest. Personally, I answered the question and went to check my response becuase of the previous post and then I started looking at all the others. I can not believe that there are more thumbs down than positive votes. I can only hope that it was not due people being hateful, rather it was because people thought they either had to vote yes or no on every suggestion. I stand more firmly now on my previous post...the thumbs down is completely unnecessary and insulting. I posted in fun and to contribute and generate interest, not for the $50 dollars. But believe me, I will not be posting again. And I have a feeling I will not be the only one who does not participate the next time. You know, if you are going to vote negatively, why bother to vote at all??? Unless you are trying to be ugly.

In spirit, this was a good gesture by the admin. An act to promote community involvement, with the added bonus of a reward to the best entry.
What upsets me is just to think that some people are trying to do whatever they can to get $50. This detracts from the whole purpose of admin's creating these community events. It's sad.
I think the voting rules need to be revamped; or get rid of the $50 ... people's "bad side" sides comes out when they see dollar signs.

Amen. I was actually more interested in possibly hearing some innovative ideas to help people. Nothing more. I also hoped that my contribution would be helpful, to someone.

OK, apparently you can only vote 1 (one) time on the thumbs up, because I tried to vote a thumbs up on all of them on the first page and noticed it made no difference. So, maybe that is all each member is allowed, period. I also attempted to vote when I was logged out, and it counted, so apparently guests are able to vote also. I could be wrong.

It's a shame that something that could've been so positive turned out like this. I was also extremely disapointed. I am just not going to read any more of that thread.

My answer was one of the ones that got two down votes (but one up vote, YAY!!) but I wasn't even worried about it. I just want to learn more alternatives to PDL's (and my ego has been taken down because I thought I knew them all--but that's another post).

Yup, I've noticed that too :( It no doubt will dampen the spirit of the poster.

We are maintaining a log. Still I'll bring it to the notice of our tech team.

Great observation Shazz :)
I'll get the matters sorted with the tech team.
Thank you all for these great feedbacks. I'll get back with the updates.

We have decided the following preventive measures to keep the voting system fair and transparent.
- Once the members vote, the responses will also receive opinions from the admin panel of debtcc, and depending on the final outcome the winner will be announced.
- We????????ll hide the total number of votes received by each responder. It????????ll remain secret till the end of the poll. This will eliminate favoritism as no-one will know how many votes he/she has received.
- As you guyz have suggested we????????re withdrawing the negative vote option. Henceforth, only positive votes will be counted. The thumb down option is gone.
So in future, if you like an answer you only have to click on the ???????vote for it???????? button. You can vote for more than one answer if you like them, but no negative votes.
However, all these modifications will take sometime. Hence, in consultation with the tech team, we have decided to stop this section for a week or so. We????????ll start it again when we????????re fully ready. We pray for your co-operation in this regard.
I would like to thank you all for all these valuable feedbacks. Please, let us know if you have more suggestions to improve this section.
Be rest assured that no unfair practice will be appreciated and we????????ll take every possible step to keep this board clean and unbiased.
We????????re in the process of reviewing the responses and will soon be announcing the first ???????question of the week???????? winner.
Regards,
Jason

Thanks Jason. It is such a shame that someone,or someones, are so childish and vindictive that this has to be done- says alot about someones morals and character!!
I got 3 hands down, and after my comment, it's probably a good thing you took off the hands down- the system couldn't handle all of them I would get

Don't feel bad Bossy, I received two hands down, but that's OK, if someone doesn't like what I wrote, it's fine with me, as long as it helps someone is all I care about. :D

There were a bunch of really good answers, and a few suggestions I would have never thought of. (I got 3 thumbs down; but 3 plus too, so in the end I broke even).
