So mad right now

Why did an answer win for that question of the week that says to sell CD's?
The answer that was number 1 for the whole time talked about a bunch of different options, while the one that "won" only talked about one thing, and it's not even something that would apply to everyone?
I checked yesterday, and that answer was not number 1.
Is Admin just picking the person they like?
That winning answer is clearly not the best answer. This is total bullsh**.

The votes were supposed to go for 2 days. At the end of the 2 days that answer was not the winner.
And yes, the answer that was in first the whole time was mine.
I don't think it's fair that some other answer that was not as good is named the winner.

A friend of mine once reached a tight spot, and they refused to get a payday loan. They gathered up their entire CD and DVD collection and took it to a local retailer that always advertises buying back used music and videos for cash. He had quite a large collection, and even though each disc only averaged about $4, it actually all came to a total of a whopping $500. So, he managed to raise $500, which in our state, he would have had to have taken out 2 payday loans to get the same amount of money. The nice thing is that it's better than pawning or selling precious items that you may never see again. You can always buy the same DVD/CD back in the future, when you are more financially fit. |

When someone needs urgent money, they should first consider what the money is needed for. If it is for a true emergency, like a medical necessity, then first they should see if any friends or family can loan them some money. Most people are embarrassed to ask for help from friends or family, but these people are the ones that would be most likely to help you. Also, they should check with their employer to see if they can get an advance or loan on their next paycheck. They should also check with local churches and help groups. Often times they have an emergency fund and are willing to help, even if you don't belong to their group or religion. If they have any sort of savings they can tap into, that would be an option too. The last option would be checking with your bank. Many banks offer payday loan like loans if you have direct deposit. These are very much like a payday loan, only you know that your bank is a safe lender, and will follow the laws. You will also know that there is recourse if something does go wrong. Banks also tend to charge much less for these loans then storefront lenders. If the money is needed because you need to pay a bill, or need to buy a gift for someone, or something that really isn't going to drastically effect your life if it isn't paid, then you should consider just waiting until you have the money. Life won't end. You can call your creditors, explain the situation, and many times they will give you an extension. Many people that have experienced the headache of getting out of the payday loan cycle will tell you that if they had just went without for that week, then they would never have been in the mess they were in. A way to avoid this need altogether is to build up an emergency fund. This way you have access to cash in an emergency, and it's your cash. I know this isn't always as practical as it sounds for those living paycheck to paycheck, but even putting $10 a paycheck into a savings account is a start. Every month you have any extra money, put that in the savings account too. Before you know it, you will have a cushion in case you need urgent money, and will have the piece of mind knowing that if something does happen, you will be able to handle it financially. |
Read them yourself? Which answer was better? How come the voting went on for 4 days instead of 2? Why wasn't the winning answer at the 2 day mark the winner?

I just don't see how they can say that answer got more votes, when at the end of 2 days my answer had more votes, and at the end of 3 days I was still in first.
The voting was only supposed to go 2 days, so I just don't understand.

Quite honestly, I didn't keep track of the votes, after I realized there was so much negativity involved I sort of removed myself from it.

I thought they would take the total at the end of the 2 days too . . . . Or even at 3 days!
It just doesn't make any sense to me . . . . My answer was way better! How is selling cd's an alternative to a payday loan? What if you have no cd's to sell? How can that answer apply to anyone? I gave several options, not just one.
This is really disappointing to me . . . . I'm really upset that I actually had faith in admin to do the right thing and just got slapped in the face for it.

I'm sorry Goudah, if it's any consulation to you, I thought your answer was much better than the winning answer, in fact, there were several other answers that were much better, but, who am I to judge. My feelings are the answers should have been totaled at the end of two days, per the original contest rules, any votes received after the two day limit, should not have been counted. That's my humble opinion.

Thanks Shazz - And I agree, there were several answers much better then the "winner" . . . .
I'm so disappointed in this site . . . . I really don't know why I bother to try sometimes . . . . I actually wrote and rewrote out my answer several times, put thought into it, and then posted it. But obviously none of that matters . . . . . Really, I don't know why I thought this contest would be any different then anything else since Mike has left, but for some reason I really believed the best answer would win . . . .

I didn't answer the question but I did get almost 400 dollars selling off DVD's and CD's. No ones answer is going to be right for everyone.
I do think that the voting should be looked into though. The no vote should be done away with and a person should only be able to vote once for one answer.

I'm not saying you can't make money by selling cd's, I'm just saying not everyone has cd's to sell . . . . . My answer had options anyone could use if they needed urgent cash.
And my answer was in the first place spot for 3+ days . . . . . In fact, last night when I looked it was ahead by 5 votes. So either Admin picked the winner, or a bunch of people voted overnight . . . .
I just don't think it's fair for Admin to make a contest, say voting is this long, then let it go on longer, then arbitrarily chose the winner. This whole contest was a mess from start to finish.

I just feel that if they are going to do a contest and make rules for it, they should follow those rules. My answer was the winning answer the whole time, and I don't understand how another answer won when I got the most votes.

I don't know, I quit looking at the answers when I saw all the hands down votes. I guess next time I'll be smarter and not use my name
I think and hope that next time there will be stricter guidelines and maybe some way to make sure that you can only vote once, and maybe track the guests votes too.

I wish I have an option to tell you that its not true. :(
I admire you immensely for your knowledge and contribution towards the community. Goudah, please don't misunderstand me. It was certainly a collective decision and no individual discretion was entertained.
I had already posted in other threads that this time we had difficulties in managing this 'question of the week' section due to lack of tech support. Hence, have decided to announce the winner for the time being as people had started to question about it. And will take care of the tech things to make it more effective and full proof.
The other mods have also suggested some ideas which we are trying to incorporate as well.
Please don't feel bad about the outcome. Your expertise is always an asset for the community and it can't be measured in terms of money.

selling Cds can definitely help you in earning some extra bucks at the time of need. Sometimes people hesitate to approach their family and friends as debt is still a stigma in our society.

If you go through the other responses, many of those too have suggested the same methods that you were. We only have tried to pick the one, which has suggested something out-of-the-box. It may not work best for all, but it can be definitely an alternative for a payday loan.

The atrophy and logic described in this post is much that of the way the Democratic party runs its primaries ... When the popular vote doesn't turn out how you like it, there should be some sort of super-delegate(s) that can override and save the voters from themselves ...
If you want to decide after-the-fact "who the voters really should have voted for", then why even put it to a vote?
It turns out that our "voters" here just really liked, or never thought of, selling CDs. I'm sorry that the voters liked Amaranth's post moreso than yours. But that's no reason to be a sore loser.
I put a lot of thought and effort into my answer, too; and I personally thought mine was better than selling CDs. But Amaranth won and I will congratulate her for it.

That is my point. Admin picked the answer they liked best and ignored the votes.

I did vote and when I saw the thumbs down part I thought it was absurd. You vote for the one you like and the total number of popular votes wins, Democratic (referring to democracy) way, as opposed to ignoring the public vote and picking who the reigning administration wants, Dictatorship. Goudah was a victim of a Dictatorship.
