I noticed Collection Dog is back at it. I've been simply editing his posts and replacing the text with "deleted" or something like that, rather than deleting them. The only reason I do that is because other members or Mods have replied to his posts, and I don't want anyone upset that I deleted their post.
But something I tried to do, just to see if it would work....and it did....and it raised a question.
There was a thread that Collection Dog started, UnclWulf replied to it, and then Sassy locked it to avoid any further replies. At the point that Sassy locked it, I had already edited Collection Dog's original post, but I went back after Sassy locked the thread, and was able to re-edit Collection Dog's post again. This raised the following question:
-Can ANYONE go back in and edit their original post on a locked thread, provided they are the owner of the original post, or does locking prevent that? Or do only Mods have the ability to edit posts on a locked thread?
I learn something new every day about this site and the way it works.

I thought that only mods could edit, but I may be wrong. I had some nasty things said about me in posts and pms, and the posts were locked and edited. The person came back somehow and edited them themselves!! Don't know if they got a mod to help them or what, but that happend some months back. I would be interested in knowing about the locked thread and editing myself..karen

It just suddenly occurred to me that I could go back and edit all the posts on the thread, which I know is because I'm a Mod...but I wondered about the original poster (in this case, Collection Dog) being able to do the same to their own post, even on a locked thread.
It would mean editing their post would do no good whatsoever, if they could go back and re-edit it.

I know, Maybe we will get an answeer. It will do no good to edit if they can un-edit!! I still think only mods can, but am not sure..karen

It probably depends on how the Admin has it set up, I'm pretty sure that once a thread is locked it can't be edited by a member, I could be wrong though !!

Yeah, I think that only we or admin can unlock them, and I don't think they can edit them once they are locked.

I have a question. Are we all on the same page as far as editing or deleting posts which are inappropriate and in violation of the rules? My understanding was, if No Nonsense Collector, or any similar entities began posting things that may cause a chain reaction of bickering back and forth, we were to edit it?? I wouldn't want to do something I shouldn't be doing, but that was my understanding, based on a conversation we all had in a thread which I believe was started by FYI, on restoring harmony to the forums. I guess I just use my common sense and edit posts that I feel are in the best interest of the community. Just askin'. :)

Roxy locked it and then SweetCharity tried to edit her post and COULD NOT there was a message that said a post could not be edited after the thread was locked...then Roxy went back and unlocked the post.
Disclaimer: I only created the screename to test the theories above not to cause problems.

No, except the admin and the mods. Other members can????????t delete or edit posts. A register member is allowed to edit his/her post as long as she/she is logged in, provided she hasn????????t received any response to her post.
If they try to edit their post which has received responses from other members, the system will throw the message ???????you can????????t edit a post which has been answered???????, and will prevent them from modifying it. Only the mods and the admin are allowed to do so.
And for the guest posts, you're not even given with the edit option.
