When I delete a post, the post is gone. There's really no way to sign in that case.
When I edit a post, I say the reason and sign my name.
Frog - I've been accused of the same thing. Don't let it bother you. This person just has it out for you right now.

I got hte immpression that tha'ts what we are suppossed to do, put the reason and who deleted. I have done this as a practice ie: deleted for profanity, locked so this wont cause problems, email removed per TOS.
Somtimes as Mods, we have to make a quick decision as to delete, lock, etc, but if I do that, it is beacuse I don't want more drama to occur, etc...karen

Right - Also, in this case, the posts that were "deleted" were pending guest posts. They never were actually on the forum. They were deleted while still pending.

The posts that Frog were referring to weren't the guest posts, they were some other posts in the Credit forum. He made a thread asking for collector's responses and asked for them not to be deleted until he could read them but someone deleted them anyway.

I was accused of deleting at random by someone today! Not me. I do not delete anonymously and not very often! |
Those are the guest posts I was referring too :D

I try to state the reason also, unless I am hard pressed for time because there is a spammer who is quicker than I, which happened to me one day. This spammer was everywhere and fast, leaving nasty posts, so I tried to follow behind them and deleted as quickly as I could. And I will also admit I deleted a post somewhere, can't remember where, but I saved it for Frog, and he PM'd me, so thank goodness I saved it! Other than that, I usually leave my name, and why I removed it. :D

I might say I deleted somehting in a post or the post itself but I don't post a reason since the only reason I am deleting something is because of the ToS.

I'll admit that I edited a few of Collection Dog's posts today and didn't sign off on the editing, and the only reason I didn't is because he seems so darn aggressive that I didn't care to have him attacking me. I don't have time to come on here and defend myself against him, so I didn't sign off on the editing I did.
I normally do, though. :-)

you have no reason to defend your actions when you are doing you job. I might defend myself up to a point but after that I ignore it. It works wonders.

I generally say why I'm deleting something, but I see no real reason why you would have to..I say do whatever feels right!

I don't know, like I said I thought it was one way, but have never seen that it has to be done.
I am like FYI- if someone is breaking the TOS, whether its' spam, vulgarity, or trying to stir something up and cause trouble, it will get deleted or edited. I think we should all do what is good for the site as a whole, and that should be sticking to the TOS--just my 2cents
I delete when there is spam, whether it is a single post or an e
I delete when there is spam, whether it is a single post or an entire thread. I also delete any replies to any spam -- because they clutter up the post and besides, they don't make sense to a reader anymore because the spam is gone.
The other reason I delete rather than edit, especially in an older post, is because the new posts bump up the recency on that thread (ie the thread will jump to the front of the queues in each forum). People browsing the forums pull them up as being "new" posts, and then start responding to the original post even though it may be 3 years old.
Anything other than spam/replies (like emails, real names, vulgarity, TOS violations), I will block it out in red, and then sign my name and reason at the bottom, also in red.

I haven't got to delete or edit in a while..If I had more time I'd get a chance. :)
I usually delete when nothing in the post is necessary...edit out things that are vulgar/etc if anything in the post is constructive....
And Froggy--I used to change people's words too..lol Anyone remember Jerseykid? He would say something mean about someone, and I'd change it to make him say something nice..lol

when a post is spam it is just gone. Now signing, now explanation, zap!
When I edit a post I will either delete the content in question, editit, or X it out, and then sign it(in red) why and my name.
Ex:
Posting active links not permited per TOS-LCW
There mayhave been an ocasion or two when I deleted a post that was infamitory or seeking to provoke an argument or hurt others. I would like to say I sign those, but I have a gut feeling I just zapped them and move on.
In another post I referenced a situation with Jesse, and I was signing those posts as I deleted them , but the guy was going nuts and I eventually started going nuts.
Would it be possible to have a drop down bar on Mods views with some of the more common reasons that would automaticaly include our screen name? So we could just click a reason and submit?
Just a thought.

That's a great idea--the more standardization, the better.
