How does a credit agency get validation?
Date: Mon, 06/02/2008 - 11:53
I sent them a letter, asking for more info. I gave them my name, current address (I had moved within the past year), and account number as it was listed on my CR...wasn't the full number though (that's how Trans Union had it). I mailed it CRR to the address as listed on my CR.
Their response was that they could not locate my account. They asked for my social security number, date of birth, former addresses, current and previous employer’s names, etc. Hesitant to provide such personal information that I do not recall having business with, I ask you guys advice and was told I should not contact them further, rather I should dispute it with the credit agencies and have them validate. I will be sending them a letter this week.
My question is, when the credit agencies seek to validate, how do they do so? Will they be providing my personal information (SS#, DOB, etc.)? I really don’t want this information shared with a company I am unsure of having business with!!!!
Thanks!
If you do not provide info to furnisher as evidenced by Facta am
If you do not provide info to furnisher as evidenced by Facta amendment of the Fcra, they can legally ignore your dispute as frivolous. You would be providing this information directly to a creditor, not a collection agency. To see how disputes are handled,I suggest you google eoscar.

I know it's to a creditor, but I never did business with them. Why do I need to provide my personal information, info that needs to be kept secure? It's like a catch-22, and I get stuck on the loosing end by being forced to supply my SS#.
Is Trans Union allowed to give out my SS# during their investigation?

I looked at e-oscar.org and I see no information that explains anything to me.
Facta is an amendment to the fair credit reporting act detailing
Facta is an amendment to the fair credit reporting act detailing the procedures to dispute with a creditor directly. If it is not your account file a fraud affidavit & forward to cap1 & bureaus. Eoscar is a database used by bureaus & data furnishers to verify accounts. No validation is required under Fcra only verification. By disputing directly with furnisher, you would get documentation of account.
