I got this about 3 times already and it is always different, be careful people.

Dear Citibank Internet-banking Customer

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures,we were unable to verify your account information. This might be due to either one of the following reasons:

- A recent change in your personal information (change of address)

- Submitting invalid information during the initial enrollment process

In order to avoid any problems with you Citibank account we ask you to take 5 minutes out of your online experience and renew your records with Citibank. Once you have updated your account records service will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

Correct. Anytime you are sent an email like that, NEVER use the link provided in the email!! Open your Internet browser,(like IE Firefox, etc) type in the URL that you KNOW is correct, and check your account that way.(make sure it's a secure site that starts with https, not http.) Or, call them at the number that you know for certain that is correct.

This is how scam artists steal identities and steal you blind!!! By fooling you into thinking you are at a legit site, and it looks legit!! But it's not!!

Also, report the phishers to the bank, or whoever they are trying to spoof. Hopefully it will get the crooks shut down.

Same goes for phone calls. Never give out personal or sensitive info to ANYONE that CALLS You first. Unless you are 100% certain it is legit. You are better off saying "I'll call you back". And use a number you KNOW is legit.

If everyone know this, there would be a lot less identity thefts due to ignorance.

I had another one from netteller too but the english was so poor in the email, I just laughed at it. It said I had $250 taken from my netteller account by a scamer and they wanted me to verify my bank information to have the money put back into netteller and then back to my bank.

Exactly. They will do their best to scare you, and when you are scared, you can make bad decisions. They will send you emails like "If you do not verify your information, we will close your account" or something like that.

Never pay attention to that garbage. Notice that the links they provide show up in the status bar when you mouse over it?

The link might say:

paypal.com

but in reality, its phishingsite.com
