Yes debt settlement does work. Just be sure the company or Law firm has a good reputation. Generally its always a good idea to look them up with the BBB.

ok couple more questions about settlements. So as I understand it the "settlement" process, by using a firm...You send them money monthly they basically save it up until they have enough to make a settlement offer with creditors.
Ok so do the creditor just stop calling me? I was told that due to some of my creditors being know as agressive, they would not contact them until they were ready to offer so it would lessen my chances of being sued.
So until that time comes, what do I tell the collectors, do I respond at all, do I ignore them, something doesn't sound right to me....Please help me understand. I'm really sold on the idea (I think), but you know me the worry wart, just wanting to understand all possible issues. Thanks Reny
ps: I'll try very hard to make this my last question for awhile:)

Ok so do the creditor just stop calling me? No , they will call you still . Some Settlement companies contact the creditors when you start the program and some don`t contact them until you have money saved to make a settlement offer.
I would suggest avoiding there calls for the most part. If you do happened to speak with them all you need to tell them is you want to pay them but are having financial difficulties and will call them when you have the money.
GREAT!! I got now....it only took how long?? lol...thanks friend

Debt Settlement Law Firm... local?
If you are considering a debt settlement law firm, is the law firm located in your state or does it have lawyers licensed to practice law in your state? I would imaging the key benefit of having a law firm negotiate your debt settlements is the potential for them to handle any legal issues. If the law firm is not a local law firm or does not have attorneys licensed to practice law in your state, then this may be a problem. I also imaging that debt settlement law firm fees are higher than non-law-firm debt settlement companies. So, what's the added benefit (if this is true), besides having the psychological effect of having someone from a law firm negotiating for you (it'll most likely be a paralegal, not a lawyer, who does the negotiating, btw).
Any other thoughts on this?

Actually I have found that law firms usually don`t charge any more fees than companys that are now law firms. Usually most settlement companys or law firms usually charge around 15 % fees to settle debt.
