My hope is that he comes back and has to get a new user name--since he won't be unemployed anymore!!
Here I Am!!!
Hey kids! I'm back!
Had a little setback, so I was off the boards for a few weeks. The great news is, I did finally get a job!
Yay!!!!
The even better news is I'm making substantially more than I was making at my old job!
Bigger "Yay!!!!"
Been unemployed for nearly a year and a half now, and was beginning to think it was a permanent thing. This ordeal I've been through has actually been going on for two years now; the medical problems started about 6 months before I lost my job. So it was been a very long road I have traveled to finally get back to where I was before then.
I have definitely learned patience, humility, and how to be a little more helpful to those less fortunate than me. Even after all I was going through, I realized there are people that are in worse shape than I ever was. So I have definitely made it my goal to stand up for those that cannot stand up for themselves and help out those less fortunate than me.
Of course, I haven't actually started the job yet; the tentative date is not until July 7th.
Argh! So close, and still so far!
I'm not doing any real celebrating until I've actually been employed for a month. Then it won't seem so much like a dream to me, and I'll realize I'm really employed again.
You know, like that one season of Dallas was a dream?
I did a quick scan of the forums before I came here and saw Il-legal Mediation Mal-Practice is still up to their tricks! Looking forward to helping others deal with those idiots!
Just glad to be with you great people here on the forums again, and helping out where I can!
Thanks for thinking of me!!

Kind of catchy!
Like "The Artist Formely Known as Prince!" Or maybe I'll just change it to an unpronounceable symbol, like he did.
Is there a way I can do an "emote" of a hand shooting the bird?
Kidding.
I'm not going to make any changes for a few months, though.

How's this for irony, though!
I finally get the time to log back onto the forums, and I got a call from this CA today violating the fdcpa on so many different levels. It's the first call I ever received from them, and I have not received anything in writing yet!
One of those ominous "I'm signing off on a decision concerning you and I need to hear from you before 3 PM" calls.
Very funny!
I wish there was a way I could post the message on this forum, it's a real laugh.
Needless to say, they got a DV and C&D letter as soon as I Google'd their address and phone/fax number.
Strange thing, though, they're not located in Jacksonville, Florida or Buffalo, NY. The breeding grounds for most of the very crooked CA's.
How'd that happen?
Well, they are out of Orlando, FL though. Close enough to Jax I suppose.

Update!
Well, I guess I've hit a snag with this job offer. I received the paperwork to fill out, and among them is an authorization for them to pull my credit. So, I'm guessing once they get a look at my credit they will withdraw their offer. The upside to this, if there is one, is they also include a questionnaire that gives you a place to explain anything derogatory that might be on your credit report. I'm hoping they will take my answers into consideration and not withdraw their offer.
I'm having to operate under the "it's not a problem until it becomes a problem" mind-set, and go ahead and submit all my paperwork.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Ron, that's great! But don't court trouble yet re the credit report. Definately report everything derogatory, because that way they can't say you're covering anything up.

Do as ks states be honest and up front with them. They should understand as you haven't had a job for over a year and I for one don't know anybody that could afford to not work these days.
Good luck and glad to here it:)

Well, submitted my paperwork today, so I'm sure I should hear something by next week if there's a problem.
Also took my drug screen test and am definitely not worried about that one; you need money in order to afford drugs. So, really not an issue for me!
I ran out of room on the questionnaire, so had to "continue" some of my answers on the back. Ya'll know how "long winded" I can be sometimes. But I answered the questions with honesty and from my heart, so I'm hoping they do take them into consideration before they decide to withdraw their offer after they pull my credit report. I just really hate disclosing to anyone (employers and people I don't know all that well) about the medical problems I've had. I had a very bad experience with my previous employer where my supervisor was telling my co-workers about my personal business. It was a really awful experience for me. It made me lose a lot of the built-in trust I used to give people; now I wait until someone I meet for the first time earns that trust.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks all for the support and kind words. I'm trying not to worry too much about it.
Easier said than done, though.
I'm going to go pop my "Incredible Hulk" video game (the one from the first movie) into my X-box (not the 360) and go break some things. Helps me take my mind off of things causing imaginary collateral damage in a video game!
Grrrrrrr!!!!!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!
I got the call today, everything is OK and I'm cleared to start work on July 7th.
I was so nervous when I got the call I almost passed out while I was talking to the guy on the phone; I got so dizzy I had problems understanding what he was saying to me. I hope he didn't think I was drunk or high or anything like that. Once I got through talking to him, and making sure I was hearing him correctly, I had to actually lay down before I passed out.
It has been a very long road for me!
Almost a year and half of unemployment and two years of dealing with health problems. I sometimes thought I would never get back to this point of actually finding work again and being physically/mentally able to return to work, much less finding a much better paying job than I had before.
I'm still holding off my celebrating until after I actually do start work, though. Not looking to jinx myself or anything, but I still feel like it's unreal.
I feel like I've been through all this difficulty for some reason. I was never the overconfident/cocky type, but I have definitely developed a sense of empathy for those less fortunate than myself and are still committed to finding ways to help make a difference. I'm really glad I found this web site when I did, as I definitely would not still be around right now to write this; the great people and advice I found on this site helped me through a very, very difficult time. That's why I've stayed around and try to help out wherever I can. I certainly don't know all there is to know, but I don't shy away from helping out with what little knowledge I do have.
And I do try lightening the mood whenever I can. Don't always succeed, but I do try.
Great news, Ron! And about time, too. Be sure to let us know whe

woo hoo ron!! I read this entire thread and just wanted to say Congrats! I know of lots of people who have been turned down for jobs due to credit even with the explanation. ITs hard to pay the bills with no income, hence the reason someone needs a job!! I understand the risks and thats why they check credit, but if you have a clear criminal record, I think that should be plenty.
its great that it worked out for you!
Yeah, I've found that hard to understand too jenoliver33; turnin
Yeah, I've found that hard to understand too jenoliver33; turning someone down for a job because they have bad credit because they don't have a job to pay the bills. With the way the economy is going down (or rather has gone) down the toilet, I'm sure more people that have never had credit problems before in their lives are starting to have problems. With the average price per gallon of gas expected to top $5 by the end of the year, it's just going to get worse!
And I'm so sure no one with good credit has ever stolen/done anything illegal before. That just couldn't happen! (that last part was sarcasm)
What I don't understand is why companies make having good credit such an important part of getting the job; however, they don't check all of their employees credit reports annually and dismiss the ones that have developed bad credit. I think that should be required by law, if a company wants to screen credit during the hiring process then the should do it annually!
No expections!
I bet that would never fly not just due to the expense of it, but I'm sure some of the ones that thought up the pre-employment requirement would probably be in trouble now as their credit might have gone bad. They might then decide that wasn't such a good idea.
As long as you're proposing that as a hypothetical requirement,
As long as you're proposing that as a hypothetical requirement, Ron... To be truly fair, it would have to extend to all employees of a firm, regardless of their position, pay grade, or seniority. Wouldn't that be a rude awakeing?
Congrats Ron I am happy for you, you deserve it, it's been long
Congrats Ron I am happy for you, you deserve it, it's been long overdue. I agree with unc on this one in regards to the credit check on everyone...I bet those big wigs would probably be sweating bullets.(LOL)
Happy Monday morning to you.

Oh yeah, I'm sorry! I usually do say that when I'm talking about that proposed requirement.
Yes, if it did become law, it would apply to everyone in that company! No exceptions! From the CEO to the Board of Directors on down! If their credit gets tanked after they are hired, then they are fired.
If the Sarbanes-Oxley act can be passed so quickly, as a result of the accounting scandals surrounding Enron and the rest of the gang, it seems like it shouldn't be so hard to pass a federal law mandating this requirement regarding credit checks and employment.
Again, this would only apply to companies that feel it is necessary to run credit checks as part of the pre-employment screening. If they don't then they would be exempt from having to continue to run them as a requirement for continued employment.
I know, it's just a dream and will probably never happen.
