I had disputed an item on my credit report from Asset Acceptance. I received a letter yesterday from them regarding the date on my credit report. They are reporting it as 2006, the actual date of the account with the original creditor is 2003. Do they re-age the account when they purchase it? The put some detail in there about Experian told them they must use the date they purchased the account. Is this correct?

They are referring to the date of opening.The date of first major delinquency will remain the same if they are reporting correctly.This date determines when it drops from report.
So the date of opening would be when they purchased the debt

open date refers to when a collector or credit first reports,it
open date refers to when a collector or credit first reports,it is meaningless in as far as to when the account drops off report.
