I want to salute my son, Kyle Collette. He enlisted into the Air Force and right now is in Tech School studying for Ground Communications. From the time Kyle was in the 4th grade, he knew he wanted to serve his country. He use to tell everyone that he was going to go into the military and follow in the footsteps of his Grandpa, Great-Grandad, his Uncle and his Great-Uncles. He know his grandpa, my dad, had served in the Army for over 20 years, was a Vietnam Vet and had been injured in Vietnam. He knew his Uncle, my brother, had served in the Air Force. His Great Grandad, my grandfather, had been in the Navy. My other uncles had been in the Army and the Air Force. Kyle was bound and determined that he was going to carry on the tradition. When he went into High School, he still told everyone that he was going to go into the military. Even when he was asked about college, no....he was going to go serve his country. He met with recruiters from all branches, but decided on the Air Force and for 2 years, he and the Air Force recruiter kept in touch. When he enlisted, he signed up for 6 years, not the usual 4. January of this year, he left to go to Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base. I had never seen a young man more proud then he was, nor has a mother ever been prouder than I was. When I went to his Basic Training Graduation, I looked at him and saw a man where a boy had once been. A man with a determination to be the best Airman he could be and to make his country proud of him. I saw a dream that was being fulfilled. I saw a look of contentment and accomplishment in his eyes and on his face. He wears his uniform with pride and is determined to not make the Air Force just a job, but a career. Yes, he is just starting out, but I know deep in my heart that he will defend his country to the end and will do it with pride and determination, just as my father did, my grandfather did, my uncles and my brother did. Even though I do get scared as to what may happen after he gets out of his Tech School, I know that he is where he wants to be and he is happy. Having been raised in and around the military, I am aware of all that it entales, but I will continue to hold my head up, smile through my fears and tears, offer love and support to him, and will always be proud and love him. I salute him, as well as my father, my grandfather, my uncles, my brother and I also salute all those that are serving now and those that will be serving.
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to tell the listeners about my wonderful, wonderful son.[/quote]

mobile ~ maybe you could contact the radio station and see if they would do something like that. There are so many military, past-present-future that deserve to be recognized and honored. To be honest, I just don't feel that those in the military really get the respect and recognition that they truly deserve. I am so glad that our one stations does this.
I feel so honored that they chose my son for this and thanks to all our military for all that they have done, are doing and will do! God Bless them all.

2nband, how great!! Your son looks so handsome. We have out TV and some radio programs that do something like that- sort of a slute to a soldier.

Karen, how cool! Please from one military family to another, tell her thank you from us. What is she going into? Does she want to get stationed on a ship or sub? Would not want to get stationed on a sub...to confining. I do know that Oceana and Norfolk bases in VA are nice bases. My ex was in the Navy and stationed at both bases. Pax River in Maryland is not bad either, was there also. My son was born at Virginia Beach General (went through tricare for that) and my daughter was born at Pax River at the military hospital. Still have friends in both states.
Good luck to her!!!
Karen
(I thought he looked pretty handsome myself, but what can I say, something about a man in uniform!! LOL He just turned 19 on the 7th of this month.)

Thanks Karen! I think she is going to stay on ship, she has been studying chemical warfare  She is young too, just barely 18 years old, but she gradueated when she turned 16.
She is supposed to come home for a few days and I will know more about where she is stationed, etc. She wrote that she couldn't tell me some of the things they are doing, prbably better I don't know!
Give your son my best-he and all of them are in my prayers.karen

Yeah, probably better you don't! LOL When my son first told me he was really interested in pararescue, I about freaked when I found out about it and what all goes with it. Thank goodness, right now, they won't let him do that.
I wish your niece all the best and tell her not to let those guys try to pull anything over her!!! I remember my ex always making comments about how the women always thought they were as good as the guys were, they were probably better...too bad my ex didn't get knocked overboard!!! He was on an air craft carrier. Actually not serious about the overboard thing...hmmmm well maybe I am considering what a, (well I will be a lady here, but sure you get my meaning), he is! Don't want to even get started on that!

 know what you mean! My neice is small, but she is highly intelligent and no one can get anything over on her! She will give them a run for their money!!
Praying for your son, my neice and all the men and women who give of themselves now and in the past so that we can keep our freedom..karen

Believe me, they are never far from my thoughts. I cry every time I hear of a young person dying in battle, yet I feel proud of them for being the person they were defending their country.
God Bless them all!!!!
