These people are calling me, but will not send me a letter. I asked them to send a validation of debt to me, but they got very mad and rude. It is the law that they must validate the debt if someone disputes it. I told them this and they went crazy! They would not even let me speak after I knew my rights. They transfered me three times, and finally to their "legal department". I got some kid who asked if I was an attorney. Then he threatened to sue instead of validating the debt. These people are crazy Quacks!!

if you paid your debts you wouldn't have to worry about it now would you. people ask for the validation of a debt just to slow the collection process, you know what your debts are, if you paid them in the first place, they wouldn't be calling you now would they.[samebox:f9cdd22d0b="paulmergel"]more drivel.get back to the phones you have the FDCPA to violate.[/samebox:f9cdd22d0b]

the first year of a new business is the hardest. if a company has been in business for eight years, sounds like someone is doing something right.[samebox:568af7df1c="paulmergel"]no it just means that not enough people have taken action against said bottomfeeder.more people should.[/samebox:568af7df1c]

Wow, How wrong Paul is. Apparently he is a collector and won't disclose. You are correct they must validate the debt, and no it is done to slow the process it is the law. The purpose the law was enacted was because collection agencies were reporting debts incorrectly and most of the time fraudulently against companies and individuals, many times the debts were paid in full already and or actually did not belong to entity and or the person. The law was enacted to keep collector honest and the vendor honest as well. By the way here is another little tid bit for you whenever a third party collection agency is contacting you THEY MUST disclose who they represent, the name of their company, their name and contact information - it is the law. To relieve you of harrassing phone calls just send them a letter via certified mail to cease any and all verbal communication and they must communicate in writing. This will avoid any threats, misinformation, makes the collection agency and yourself to work within the laws that govern them, and should the collection agency violate any portion of the law you have documentation and you can file for sanctions against them. In some very extreme cases proceed with criminal prosecution.[samebox:1153a35a48="paulmergel"]you know nothing about me.what in any of my notes or responses gives you any notion of what i am.other than your opening shpiel your post is good.[/samebox:1153a35a48]

If you haven't received a dunning letter with info about the alleged debt and how to dispute it, then assume the caller is a scam or phishing expedition, and file a complaint against them with the FTC, the FCC, and your state Attorney General. And sue them if they keep it up - document all their violations.

No letter, no money...

i got a call from them, they are telling me i am responsible for a balance my wifes ex husband has, and since they couldnt find him, they want us to pay. this balance is from an account after the divorce was final. i faxed the divorce papers as proof. they insisted that we still pay. my lawyer is now involved. they should not be in business with the crap they are pulling.

These jokers called my office yesterday and said I owed them $X. I asked for an accounting of all late fees, add ons and so forth as well as a validation that they represented the outfit they said they did. They refused and hung up, but not before threatening one of my staffers to send this to their attorneys. A complaint is being filed with the Federal Consumer Protection agency. The calls were recorded.

I like how they come on here as Anonymous, claiming to be a company that can verify they are legit.
Why exactly would some random company be going to a complaints blog to post good things about a business that's not even theirs?
I'm a physician and would never want a company that employs such rude and harassing people to tarnish my practices good name. Somehow a bill that insurance was supposed to pick up got sent to theses guys and they call me with over the top, we'll destroy your credit if you don't pay us immediately.
I don't know the law, but misrepresentations here would make me think they so it consistently (as they did with us).
If enough of us file complaints maybe we can put bottom feeders like this out of business.

These are the most RUDE ABNOXIOUS people I have ever dealt with!! The guy called us asking for money told him we were in the middle of bankrupsy and he told us we should of never overspent in the first place. Upon asking for his name he told us it was none of our business. I called back and got a woman who was just as rude. Filing a complaint with BBB and attorney generals office

My daughter got a call today saying that she owed a compnay $50. They told her she had until 5 pm today to pay it our they were putting it on her credit report. My daughter called the company and they told her that she was in their system but that that she did nto owe them any money. The company is calling ATG and finding out how they got this information when there is no money needing to be owed.

This place sounds like a scam. Just trying to get banking information to steal money from you!!!!

Then I called tonight andthey were going off on me just because I asked them about sending me the receipt. I asked for the manager and they kept asking why and then the man gone tell me my account has been there for 4years because I asked him why are they so rude. Then manager was no better, OMG what happen to customer service. I went on there website and it said we treat our customers with respect, I cant tell. Well the problem with that is you are not their customer, the account owner is. They don't have to be civil, though they do have to follow the parameters of the law and can't lie or employ underhanded collection tactics. A good rule of thumb is to treat them how they treat you. If they are rude, then be rude. If they are civil, then politely demand validation, which is your right just as it is their right to attempt collection. You can always point that out to them if they get hostile, the same rights that allow them to collect also allow you to get validation. :)
