Sue Them!
Take the proper steps in obtaining validation (you won't get anything from them). Also dispute it with the CRA. Get all documents together and contact a lawyer. My main concern was the cost initially but to my surprise it costs me nothing to sue! My lawyer gets paid when I get paid. This agency is a joke!
ACC just won't die
I contacted the CRA--It was validated, but I have never received any kind of delinquincy notices for $50 (I would have paid that). I wonder about the CRA as well. It says you can attach a personal comment, but it must be their's. How personal is that?! I do plan on contacting the ACC who listed the Original Creditor as BSKYI; who on God's earth are BSKYI?

The CRA will verify just about anything. All they do is call the CA and ask "is this valid"? The CA replies "yes" and they claim it's been verified. That process is a joke as well. You should write directly to ACC requesting validation and make sure you send it certified return receipt mail. Once they don't respond to your written request within 30 days (and they won't) you'll have grounds to sue...or at least something to start with. They bought a lot of junk debt and can't back up most of it. They've been just sticking stuff on people's credit reports because they know most people won't hold them to the law. Don't let them get away with it!

Unless the consumer lives in Texas, they have no time limit to validate a debt. If they verify a dispute before providing validation, then they have violated but one violation does not a lawsuit make.

They are harrasisng me and when I ask for a break down of the charges they told me they are not gowing to sent me any paper. They got so rude over the phone and yelled at me that I had to hang up on them. Why are they so rude and unprofessional? What can i do?

They got me too. I've applied for a home equity and was refused due to an erroneous "collection" on my credit report.
How do I get that off and make them stop???

These a-holes contacted me a year ago just before I was to give birth to my daughter. The woman said I had till the end of the day to settle my account with them or else they were taking me to court and that the court paperwork had already been filed. They wouldn't say where the debt originated- only that it started at $3000+ and now was nearly $8000!!! I was freaked out, so scared and about to give birth to my first kid!!!
I spent the whole day trying to track down this debt- then finally googled bad debt, etc. I called the bitch back and told her to send me all the paperwork associated with my account. A year went by and I received nothing! I even called the courthouse and they had NO record for me at all.
NOW- today I got a letter in the mail saying that I owe nearly $9000 and I need to send a check in full in 15 days before they take legal action.
Most importantly I forgot to mention that when I first heard from them a year ago- my mom called and said that a debt collector called her (in a different state) and left a message on her voice mail saying that I was being sued for bad debt- bla bla bla. That is illegal too!!!
What do I do?

OK Marie Kohl, lets get started, shall we?
What state do you live in and if you can think of what it is for if it is yours and the last time you paid, that would help. HOPEFULLY it is time barred.
Does this letter have a 30 day disclosure on it giving you the right to dispute the debt? Does it also say that the communication is from a debt collector or similar?
The amount seems outrageous to me and most likely VERY old or they have no information. furthermore, I don't think a debt collector can threaten legal action as they are not an attorney. I know my state for sure does not allow that.

It does they that they are a debt collector- I don't see anything about a 30 day disclosure.
Please be advised that the entire balance of your account must be paid within 15 days. Failure to comply will result in our immediate recommendation to further our collection efforts.
We extend this opportunity to settle this debt in a friendly manner. You may either send your payment in full to Absolute Account Resolutions LLC:, or you must call (570) 558-5681 at once.
This is your final opportunity to contact us to avoid further legal action.
(I live in New Mexico. I also googled this agency and it seems that they are major frauds!) My mom suggested I contact the postmaster about this scam- as it has crossed state lines...
American Credit Collections
Long story short, I decided to cancel a course with Penn Foster (because their courses were a JOKE!) and after arguing with them for ages, they agreed to cancel the course and I would owe nothing further. This was all done PRIOR to December of 2007. Now, over a year later, I recieved a collections notice on behalf of penn foster from American Credit Collections.
I called ACC and told them I was disputing the debt. They told me "There's nothing to dispute. You signed a contract." I might have signed a contract but Penn Foster didn't live up to their end of it, and agreed to let me quit the class... This ASS on the phone kept telling me "You signed the contract, you have to pay. Any issues you have with the school are up to the school." So after spending a long time on the phone with HIM, i called the school and they gave me the run around. Told me that it was their policy for a termination fee, etc, etc. And that since it was in collections now, there was nothing that could be done. I told them I had been told I owed nothing further and that the classes were dropped. And he said "Well, you still owe." And when i asked him why i wasn't sent any bills after I was told that I didnt need to pay further he just said "I don't know." and now i'm getting a colection notice over a year later?!?
Anyone have any advice? I have a more detailed explanation of the situation if anyone's interested! I'm stressing out hardcore! I'm 8 months pregnant and these assholes kept yelling at me for no reason!!!

Dealt with these people thru a relative. They never validated nor verified the debt. They are crooked and they have a tendency to break the law. You may have enough for a lawsuit. Check with an attorney that deals with these kinds of people all the time.

I have called their office and unfortunately they are close at the time, I left a message and my contact number and requested them to call me back in order to discuss payment. I have sent a partial payment under their name and the check has been redeemed. Now i am wondering why they have not returned my call. Would you advise that i continue sending them partial payments until the debt is fully paid?

This company contacted me last month, Nov 2009. The amount that they said I owed was almost double! I did a lot of research on line and sent a dispute letter to this company requesting additional information regarding the debt and proof of the debt. (because of course the letter states that you have 30 days to dispute the debt) And the letter was from a Kim Ross. Of course they only give a P.O. Box so you can't send a certified letter to them. Shortly after I got a letter from Sue Burns at this agency stating that they were filing legal action against me with a lawyer in my area. So when I called Sue Burns back she then said that they could take off all the interest. Which I find interesting because from my understanding on the FTC website it is against the law for a credit collection agency to add interest to a debt. When I asked this Sue Burns from this agency in regards to the dispute letter I sent. She said that they never received. Of course they didn't! When I asked how much it was to pay off the debt and resolve it. I demanded the name, address and phone number of the lawyer they had contacted. Sue advised me that Kim Ross is an attorney in their office that they use. (which proves that they didn't contact a a lawyer in my area as I was advised and that the letter stated they were going to do) I am debating paying them because they did not supply the requested information that I have requested to verify the debt. These collection agencies purchase accounts for pennies so the money they collect goes directly to them and not back to the credit card company. Their street address is 9121 Oak Street, Scranton PA 18508. I am considering filing something against them since they didn't respond to my dispute letter.

Whatever you do do not send or authorize payment to American Credit Collection Agency out of Scranton, PA. They are lying and very deceitful collection agency. Dispute your debt first and file a dispute with Credit Bureau. Make them prove to you that you have the right to collect the debt from you. There is a vast amount of info on the web on the steps to take next if they don't validate your debt. I will not give them a dime until they prove to me that I owe. They add interest and fees almost causing your debt to be double the original amount which is illegal according to the FTC. File complaints against them if you have to with the FTC and attorney general's office in your state.

Recent Voicemail from ACC
I recently received a voicemail from someone at this company that absolutely shocked me. It made a lot of assumptions about me. The person tried questioning my "moral compass" and made racial assumptions also. I was absolutely shocked that someone that is supposed to be a professional would be so rude and ignorant and to actually do it on a voicemail. I am currently writing a letter to the President and Vice President of the company just to let them know how rude and ignorant this person has been. I know it really won't do anything or go anywhere but this kind of behavior should not be tolerated by the company or the people that they are trying to collect from.

Coincidence? This is crooked stuff. Wife signed up for classes when we lived in Hawaii. Online classes were either during her work or 3am. After already paying them over $200 and not receiving any class materials, she dropped. She asked billing if she owed them any money, they said no. That was Oct 2004. It took them OVER five years to charge her a $65.25 unenrollment fee. No bills or invoice sent either. I send them a DV letter with a stamp. They denied getting it so I'm off to send another one that is certified. They refused to to let me fax them a letter as well.
