I applied a couple of weeks ago for an American Airlines credit card online. I was not entirely surprised when I was denied, because even though I have no open collections on my credit reports, I do have a few things that have made my credit shaky.

Fast forward to today.

I get a phone call at work from someone at CitiBank, she apologized for calling me at work but she wanted to speak to me about the application for an American Airlines Citibank card that I had applied for online. Then she went on to say that the application was denied in error, and if I still wanted the card she would complete processing the application and I should have everything in a week or so. She never asked for any additional information, just asked me if I had any questions, and the entire call was about a minute.

So after I hung up I started thinking ... does any of this sound fishy? I didn't even write her name down so I feel like a total bozo, I shreded the application and everything so I have nothing to refer to until I get something in the mail next week (hopefully). Any thoughts?

Oh these are the dings on my credit at this point ...

1: $326 tax lien that was my ex husbands from 12 years ago that I paid off 2 years ago when I found out about it. Wrote a "Goodwill" letter 7/9/08.

2. My cards are all maxed out. Need to make more money or husband needs to start getting paid before this will change.

3. Palisades are reporting a Paid in Full debt as "settled". Sent "Goodwill" letters to the Original Creditor (AT&T) and to the attorney that collected for Palisades on 7/9/08.

4. LVNV is the only creditor of a dozen or so that is still on my CR. The other companies all agreed to take themselves off when I paid in full, but not LVNV. Wrote a "Goodwill" letter 7/9/08.

5. My credit is in the low 600's, I didn't think it was bad but combined with all the other stuff, I guess it is just "one more thing".

well I feel a bit better now, I will be running to the mailbox every day until it gets here, I am very curious about what the credit limit is and what the interest is going to be. I THINK that when I applied it was for a 0% interest rate until December or somthing, but I can't be sure and as I shredded the app I just don't know!

Well at least this all has put me in a much more cheery mood than what I was last week!

Personal experience is LVNV has no GOODwill on EVILwill. Whether you have paid them or not, they will report derogatory information the full 7.5 years. That's the hammer they use and if they do it for 1 consumer that would interfere with their "Mission Statement" which is something like " to Sodomize the American Citizen in every way we can to maximize our profit and keep us from beating our spouses and pets...". The only thing they understand is litigation. I've been going round and round with them for the last year and almost have all my ducks in a row to file against them.
