Will it never end?

Now for the whining . . .
Today my husband lost his job. Since I am currently unemployed also, that means that our only income is from his construction work that he has continued to do on the side. Since relying on that as his only source of income is part of what got us into the mess we are currently in, it's pretty doubtful that we will be able to survive on that for long (since it wasn't even enough when the construction industry was booming, which it definitely is not now). Jobs are hard to come by in our area since a large part of our population worked in either the real estate or the construction industries--and now they're all looking for jobs too. I've worked occasional part-time or work from home jobs, but for the most part I've stayed home with my kids and haven't worked full-time in several years, which will make it hard for me to find a job also.
And to top it all off, a lady backed into the side of our car in a parking lot today. This is the used car that we just bought a couple of months ago with borrowed money from my in-laws so that my husband had a car that would get good gas mileage for his 175 mile round trip commute to work. Now that he no longer has that job, the ideal thing to do would be to sell the car and pay back my in-laws, but now we'll have to put that off until we can get it repaired.
It just never seems to end! :(

did the lady who backed into your car have insurance, or was she uninsured? You would be entitled to a replacement (rental) vehicle while yours is in the shop being repaired. Even if you just had liability only, the at-fault person is responsible for returning the item she hit (your car) into pre-accident condition. Glad your husband wasn't injured at least, THAT would have made things even worse! Good luck and I hope he can find another job soon.

Thanks, guys. Yes, smo,the lady does have insurance, so at least that's good. I hadn't thought about a rental car, but that's good to know since I was already wondering what we are going to do while that one is in the shop.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to post about the other development this week. My husband has a very enlarged prostate and an extremely high PSA reading, both of which could be possible indicators of cancer. He currently has a bladder infection, so that could also be a contributing factor. The urologist wants him on antibiotics for six weeks before taking another PSA reading, so we won't know anything for sure until after that. We're not TOO worried as he is younger than what most men are when they develop prostate cancer, BUT the possibility is there and is another worry right now.

have him drink tons of water and cranberry juice, or take a cranberry supplement. And I mean a TON of water, a gallon a day, although he'll have to work up to it if he's not used to drinking that much. No coffee or sodas. It will help you save money too!

I am so sorry to hear about all this. I totally understand how you feel. it seems like when it rains it pours. As I have been told many times, keep your faith up. Believe that it will get better!!! (I am one to talk....I know how easy it is to be a pessimist instead of an optimist), but hey, it is good advice anyway. LOL
Here for ya if you when you need us.

Thanks, Dollars!
Smo, I'm still trying to get the lady's insurance company to call me back. They aren't returning phone calls to either me or my insurance company. My insurance company told me that often in parking lot accidents, even if the other person admits responsibility at the time, when they talk to their insurance company, they will try to blame it on the other person. I'm beginning to wonder if that's the case here, and I'm wishing that I'd gotten some witnesses telephone numbers when it happened.
As to the other things, my husband doesn't go back to the doctor for another few weeks. And our only income right now is still his construction income. Right now we're surviving, but it will probably slow WAY down during the winter.

I believe most states have a "30 day" period that is viewed as "reasonable" for insurance companies to research property damage claims, and allow longer than that for injury claims. Once it clicks over that 30 day timeframe, GET ON THE PHONE TO YOUR INSURANCE COMMISSIONER. That is the ONLY thing that Insurance companies will respond to quickly. good luck!
Alias - can you go back to the place where the accident happened
Alias - can you go back to the place where the accident happened and see if there is a security camera in place. Sometimes they keep the tape for x amout of days/weeks. You might be able to retrieve it for evidence.

Thanks, Desperately! Actually, AAA has finally informed me that they are accepting full liability, so now it's just a matter of getting the car in there and getting the repairs done.
That is great news...see things are starting to look up for you:

Alias, don't forget about the rental car! You are entitled to one while your vehicle is in the shop. If you have a truck or van or other larger vehicle and NEED to utilize that type of vehicle (have dogs, need to cart kids or merchandise around, etc), you are entitled to it. You should get "like kind and quality" and should not be inconvenienced more than necessary by this accident. You should not profit, but you should also not be put in a "lesser" position due to someone elses negligence. Unless the vehicle you have is a Geo Metro or other similar tiny subcompact, you are not expected to be stuck in one while your vehicle is being repaired. Of course, a Geo Metro gets AWESOME mileage, so that isn't necessarily a bad thing!
good luck and glad to hear it is going well. AAA is a good company and they should take good care of you.

Thanks, smo! Yes, AAA has already said that they will cover a rental car. The one that got hit actually is a small car (Honda Prelude), so they'll cover something comparable, but that's ok. When we need something bigger, we drive my husband's work truck. Otherwise, for normal driving, we go for the better gas mileage!
