we are writing to advise you of a recent situation regarding your Equifax credit file. As a result of a test that was being ran by us and a service provider of your mortgage company, certain incorrect mortgage account information may have been inadvertently reported on your Equifax credit file for a brief period. The information could have been reported in your credit file from august 1 2005- until it was corrected on August 11, 2005. |
Then they went on to say that if I call their number a free credit report will be mailed to me. additionally, upon my request a credit score disclosure will also be provided. Then went on to apologize.
Looks like I'm getting a free credit report! actually, the letter was to my husband. But the mortgage is in both of our names.
anyone heard of this before---??? anything I need to be careful of? thanks, shirley

TravisTrittFan,
This largely happens in the credit bureaus due to the posting of the incorrect data of the consumers. Due to handling of large number of consumers’ records, they often fail to report the accurate information, update the credit files after finding an erroneous data. They often insert information at the other person’s file. The consumers have to large suffer due to these clerical errors and are sometimes even penalized for something that they never did.
It’s good on your part that Equifax has sent you this notice about their mistake at the first place. Go ahead and place the calls. The errors will be corrected for free.

Got my free credit reports this week. mine and my hubbys. The credit score is the EXACT same as it was in January, in fact, the credit report itself is the same as well. Nothing has changed for better or worse. Its 560. I know that is far from great, but its not rock bottom either, for someone who has several charge offs on their record. Just wish that my creditors would show that I'm paying, while I'm paying. maybe have to wait until they're paid off, before they will report anything?

Creditors will usually update only after the account is cleared.
Creditors will usually update only after the account is cleared. They think from their point... What if a person stops payment in between...
You might have to wait for some time till your accounts are paid off.
