Kristin I just googled 'non profit credit counseling service in Georgia' and came up with a slew of them. I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but I'm just letting you know in case you're interested. :)

I want a settlement though. Non-profit credit counseling is for dmp's, right?

Kristin, I think that at least in some states where debt settlement companies cannot legally operate, attorneys who are licensed in that state can still offer debt settlement services. I'm not sure whether that's true in Georgia or not, but you could look into that as a possibility.

You are correct alias. debt settlement can only be offered in Georgia by a licensed attorney in that state.

That's what I thought. I did find an attorney online who is able to work in GA, FL, and a few other states. I googled her and have found nothing negative yet. However, I willl keep checking.

What about settlement companies who have attorney's working with them? wonder if that counts??

I talked to these people and they said they have a network of attorneys in Georgia and they can so settlement here. Any one heard if them?

virtualdeal, the only one I have found online so far has been the law firm of Bonnie L Canty ( I hope it's okay to post that here). Google the name. She's a real person with real write-ups from law magazines and other stuff. Says she can do settlement in GA and FL I've emailed her to see.

mobile0311, dumb question perhaps. but how does the state of GA find out if a company is working with a client on a settlement program when they aren't supposed to? I saw you posted that the fine could be 50K or something (it was in another reply you made).

Well the minute that client is not happy and files a complaint with the BBB or an attorney general in GA or FTC the cat will be let out of the bag. They might never be caught unless you complained but do your really want to do business with a company willing to break the law to get your business.

The best place to search for a reputable lawyer or non profit organization in GA is to contact the state banking commission and find out which reputable companies are doing business in your state.

In a mess, do you have the whole name of coastal credit and their address? There are a lot of companies with that similar name.
