You are saying to not get a loan to pay off other debt, but if it isn't so much the unsecured debt, but the every month bills such as gas, electric, ect. how do you suggest staying current with everyone if you are just trying to make ends meet with the most needed bills and not have anything left for the unsecured debt?

Hi kamaddux

Welcome to the forums.

Include such bills in a consolidation program. All the utility bills will be combined into one loan amount at a lower rate of interest. You will be paying these debts off from your monthly payments only.

The consultant will negotiate with your creditors for a reduced amount and you will be offered an easier monthly payment plan.

After you have paid all the debts, your credit report will show the consolidated accounts as 'paid' and your credit scores will be raised thereafter.

Hope this fulfills your needs.

The old bills can only be included in the consolidation program. The bills that are current needs to be behind in payment first so that it can qualify for the program.

Once the bills are in defaults, the consultant will contact the companies and arrange for a payment plan. Aside, you will be paying to your current bills.

Okay..so to understand..my dad is in a similar situation. For the past 5 months he has fallen behind on utility bills and credit card bills. His priority bills right now are the mortgage and car payments and the rest he tries to do what he can which is why he has fallen behind. He has tried to apply for loans and even tried to refinance his house but have been denied. Will a debt consildation program help him at all?

Hi Baldie

Welcome to the forums.

All the unsecured debts will be included in the consolidation program. Take a free counseling and discuss more about this program with the consultant. You will surely be able to achieve a debt free life within a reasonable period of time.

I'm retiring in another 4-5 years and I want to be as debt free as possible. I'm taking a class to get a part-time job on the weekends. I figure I'll just work the job until and possibly after I retire. It will be harder on me, but I'll feel safer. There are so many scammers out there, I'm very leary. I receive mail from various loan companies to just sign the check they send and they'll deposit that amount in my account. I shred them as fast as I can. I

Hi Rebecca

Welcome to the forums.

With the large numbers of scams all around, you are doing the right thing by shredding the loan offers immediately. You just can't afford to lose your hard earned money to the scammers especially when you are approaching the retirement age.

Live on cash as much as you can and if you prefer to use credit, keep some money aside for making the payments. This way, you will live your life with dignity.

I have this one credit card with a pretty high limit & a low interest rate. The problem is that they don't trust me. I say this because I ordered about $257 of merchandise and when I went to check on when it was to be mailed, I was told they had a received a Hard Decline. I gave them another credit card number, but it got me to thinking. Why give someone a card with a high limit if you don't trust them. It feels like they think I'm a bull in a china shop. Since then, I have chosen not to use the card because why try to buy something if they are liable to refuse payment. I'm no even close to half of the limit. Any ideas on why they did what they did? Anybody?
