It says paid, but it is still on the negative side, should I be calling the cb?

Depending on who and what it is, I would just dispute the accuracy of the information with the credit bureau 90 days after the change.
Do that every 90 days or so, and eventually the company that reported it will just not bother to respond (it takes time and money for them to), and it will drop off

I don't know about that drburr. Sure if it is some, small time, collections agency then yes that might work but most established companies will continue to report even if you continue to dispute it. In time the credit bureaus may even start to dismiss your disputes as being too frivilous and not take them as seriously as you'd like them too. Please don't take offense drburr. It never hurts to try it once or twice to see if they'll give in but I just wouldn't be too repedative.
Unfortunately any kind of negative mark on your credit would then be classified under the negative information section of your credit reports. Ironically that doesn't mean that it is affecting your credit score negatively though.
I have a credit card account that I have had opened for three years now and right after I had opened it I had a 30 day late payment on the account. Since then all of my payments have been on time and it is helping to increase my credit score but it is still listed as negative on my credit reports because of that 30day late payment.
I'm sure that by having that old bill showing paid instead of unpaid on your credit reports is in fact helping your credit score. Though it may stay on your reports for quite some time.
Best of luck danilewis82!
holy crap was that a long post! sorry for the short story there.

That is true. You can have a negative mark on your CR but if it only happens once and it's not repetitive evry other month then it will be a problem. Your score may decrease for that one 30 day late but if it doesnt happen again within a few months you can get those points back. Sometimes creditors will understand and won't hold you to that one 30 day you were late. (Don't quote me on that) but it happend to me once and I didn't have a problem. I was purchasing a vehicle and the dealer said that had a 30 day late, I explained why and there wasn't a problem, and my credit score was still high enough.

Other than one company (who I am working on now), all of my original creditors/collection companies came off of my reports within a year of paying them off. It is not an overnight fix, but it IS a fix, and it does work just as drburr said.

Please remember that this is a process that takes a considerable amount of time and effort. The fact that you paid of a bad debt is great. Will it have an immediate impact....maybe. A paid collection is just as a derogatory listing as an unpaid because it shows as more recent. Give it some time and dispute it. You've paid so the CA has no reason to waste time or money verifying.
it depends on the company though, some just refuse to come off.
