Dispute after two years....

But my question to all this is, don't creditors keep all their info on computers and servers. Or since they have so many customers might they delete your info out of their system to make space for all the new customers?
Does any body have any comments about this, or does anybody know anything different?

I know that a few years ago when we were trying to refinance our house, it turned out that there was an old lien still on there from a home equity line of credit that had been paid off a few years earlier. When we made the final payment and closed the account, they stopped billing us. However, they never released the lien on the property, and I wasn't knowledgeable enough at the time to realize it.
Anyway, it took several phone calls and finally some threats of legal action to the president of the company to get them to fix their mistake and release the lien so that we could finish our refinancing before losing our locked in interest rate. What they kept telling me was that our records were no longer in the computer and they would have to go offsite to check the records in storage.
So, yes, I would assume from this experience that they only keep more current records in their computer system, and they back up the older records to media storage and store them offsite.

I know that I had very good luck with disputing all of my paid credit items, and all but one (out of about a dozen) was removed. They were all paid in full about 2 years from when I disputed, so possibly that was why?
