Lori,
Do you mind telling the total amount of your debt? Always choose debt consolidation program if you can afford the monthly payments. Do not go for a settlement program otherwise your credit will be ruined for a longer period.
I know that Superior Debt has offered settlement programs to some people having huge debt problems. But they work on consolidation programs also. You need to show your interest in making regular monthly payments and they will tactfully negotiate with your creditors.
Do let me know the proposal they will place to you. You can go ahead with them as this site has partnership with good debt consolidation companies around.
If you have a problem, do post it here without hesitation.
Debt consolidation programs
Hi, my debts total around 16,000. What are some reputable consolidation companies? I would prefer to consolidate so I don't completely ruin my credit.

Lori,
While you work with any consolidation company, keep the following things in mind:
- Get a monthly statement from the consolidation company and the creditors showing the complete break up of your money.
- Get in writing from the creditors that your accounts will be shown as 'paid in full' or 'paid as agreed'. This is the most important status that gives a positive view about you to your future lenders.
Consolidation program will improve your credit ratings once your start making the monthly payments. It will appear in your credit file as long as you are in the program, but will be removed once you have completed the program.
Also, you will get a reduction in the total amount of your debt eliminating the financial charges, late fees, etc. So, choosing this program will be greatly helpful if you are struck through financial crisis and are trying to improve your credit file.
