My sister in law, who lives in NJ, spoke to someone in the Syosset, NY office. They have taken $250 from her every month since january but paid not one creditor. They are telling her that she hasn't given them "enough" money to pay any creditors. But they have over $2000 of her money, so I find this hard to believe. We used The Credit Card Foundation (TCCF, or godebtfree.com) to relieve our credit card debt and have constant contact with them, as well as a website to log in to see exactly where our payments went. She lives in NJ, the firm is in NY, and I'm afraid she has been scammed. Anyone familiar with this? I am going to call them with her tomorrow as she is very nervous, and not as well spoken as I am, and I mean that not in a nasty way, I love her like a sister, but she is not very worldly, and has no experience in handling things on her own, she never has. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. And I HIGHLY recommend TCCF, they have been a God send to our family.

I was scammed by this company also. Never been scammed before. They took $1200 from me since March and did not pay any of my debts. I only have $450 in escrow but they promised to make a refund of the $450 and my last month's payment but to date nothing. The promise of a refund was 7 to 10 days from 8/13/08 and I called Wed 8/20 to find out the status and was told they couldn't release my money for a month because they are getting audited by the State of Florida.. I have a complaint in with the BBB. I never got talked into anything on the phone but what a smooth talker this guy was. My gut feeling was to hang up and I wind up agreeing to the debt service. I am now in more of a mess than I was when I started with them because of the added finance charges and late charges. If you get anywhere with them please let me know

We agreed with this company as well to negotiate and pay our debts. We were unaware of the ridiculous fees and mislead completely. We had been with the firm for 8 months, they debited a total of $3775.00 from our account. Thru the months we kept contact wit the firm concerned that creditor would not stop calling. They promised to take care of this, but the calls continued daily at home, work and cell phones. We would complain, but they said, letters were sent to them, it was illegal for them to continue, but they did. The creditors said, the firm never contacted them or would they work with them on anything. I started to get upset, but the company will not refund our $3775.00, only $700.00! I have contacted the BBB and the atty. general in NY where the company is located. We have not heard anything yet nor recieved ANY of our money back. We are in such a mess now and have to file chapter 13 to save ourselves. this company took our money as well and scammed us. I will fight to the end to get my refund! I have a call in as well to the number above, prqaying for help, that is alot of money for us. All we did was try to do the right thing and pay our debt with some help, but was taken advantage of.

I work in collections and this is the thing I try to explain to anyone with or planning on going with any debt settlement company. The first thing that we look at is to garnish wages. This is because the companies dont have contact with the creditor while they are taking your $, and while you are telling the people with your accounts that they are with this debt settlement service your accounts keep running up balances and fees. When in fact if the person that can afford to pay 3775 over 8 months should be able to afford a minimum payment on a credit card. You have to understand the credit card companies just want their $ no matter where it comes from. The first thing that should be done if running into a financial mess is to contact the credit card company to see what can be done to help. But this doesnt happen and people run to these people promising to get out of debt fast, which in reality that is not something that can be done. My opinion you people deserve everything you got by them stealing your $ instead of just paying your credit cards.

First thing, everyone is not educated on how to get out of debt. So that is why sites like this exist. To help educate on handeling debt and dealing with CC companies like yourself, and other debts.

Yes, folks will try anything to get a creditor off their back without doing proper research. However, all CC companies are not as forgiving and do not always workout smaller payments, hardship plans, lower APR%, etc..

I do not think it is fair to say "You People" in general, because you do not know everyones financial situation. IMO, some CC companies are just as much a scam as some debt relief programs.

i too am offended by that comment. You think that is the only account that this person may have? I doubt it scince they are going through a settlement company. Frankly i hear over and over alot of times the cc does not allow a hardship program for some people.

anya, i agree scince when is 30% interest rates reasonable? They are legal loan sharks.

If you have received a random phone call from a company possibly going by the name of Consumer Protection Law Center and they are soliciting from you under the guise of debt consolidation, please do not give them your information. This is a SCAM! The company claims to be out of NY.

I am trying to cancel the program bc I have paid off my debt. I cannot get through to ANYONE at their customer service #. I have been on hold for nearly 2 hours and I have no idea what to do. I have tried e-mailing and faxing, and nothing has given me a return phone call. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I joined Campos Chartered Law in 2007 and was scammed into thinking I was doing the responsible thing and settling my debt. NOW it turns out they took over 3000 of my money with nothing to show for it!!!! No website, no way to contact, and now apparently they hve changed their name to Consumer Protection Law Center. Are they in Syossett? Coral Springs??? Can anyone help????

Even though there are so many negative comments, I would just like to say that we have been with Liberty relief for over a year now and they HAVE reduced our interest rates and made payments to our creditors in a timely manner. Our debt was reduced from 15,000 to less than 8,000. Payments were half of what we were making directly to our credit cards. My suggestion is cut up those credit cards and switch to a debit card, spend only the money you already have,

This company has been nothing but a nightmare and while they are still attempting to withdraw money from my account all phone and fax numbers have been discontinued and I have not been able to contact this company. I cannot even find their website. I have stopped payments and will close my account if necessary. Shame on them!!!
