I was forced to abandon my credit cards 7+ years ago when I lost my job and had to leave the country. As a result, all my accounts had been charged-off within 6 months, and got sold and resold to/by multiple JDBs who have posted numerous false entries to my credit report throughout these past 7 years. I have just recently returned to the country and, when I look at my report, I see a lot of entries I want to dispute. The total amount of the original/legitimate debt had increased 4 times due to interests and double-postings from several JDBs. Finally, since I have had no real activity on the cards, my current contact details (address/phone/work) are not on the reports so no one is contacting me about them right now.

My questions are as follows:

1) Does anyone have any advice on how I can clean this up? Will it get cleaned up if I just don't do anything? My debts are all past the SOL for my state and, if not for these false entries posted in the last 5 years, the original charged-off debts would have been past the 7-year reporting period (and should have been automatically removed, if I understood what the 7-year reporting limit means).

2) I want to eventually dispute all false entries that I know of (activities they claimed I have done while I was not even in the country), but I'm afraid that doing so would force me to expose my current contact info, which would then open me up for many harassment techniques from the JDBs. Is there any way to cleanup your credit report without exposing your current contact details?

3) In case the JDBs manage to get hold of my new contact details (address/phone/work), could someone confirm that I can no longer be sued for these debts (even the "valid" ones), since they are past SOL? If they send me a letter telling me to respond within 30 days (most of these letters will be coming from outside of my state, where the JDBs operate), what would happen if I just ignore it?

4) If they can no longer sue me, can I also stop them from harassing me at work? Can someone please explain how to do this?

I hope someone can help me.

Check your state statues on that...I know that Texas specifically states that if you live within the wonderful state of Texas for 1 year, you can claim state SOL of 4 years no matter what. I love Texas. :)

Once you find out if you can/can't claim SOL you just have to decide if you want to deal with all that. There is no real way to effectively dispute things w/o updating your contact info, and you more then likely will get the CAS hounding you, but you can put a quick stop to that if you are willing to fight them to the bitter end, but that could mean taking them to court. One good thing, if these things have been passed from CA to JDB and so on, there is a very good chance they can't provide DV so even if your SOL still is not up, you have ammo with which to fight.

THanks for all the responses. I just checked my credit report from TU and it shows that some of them are due to be removed in the next 8 months. When this happens, will the current owners of the debt still be able to sue (assuming I am not protected by SOL)?

Also, I'm not planning to dispute any yet, but I'll start researching on the process. Can anyone point me to some useful links to help me figure out what I should be doing to dispute each questionable entries in my report?

Thanks again for your help.
