This payday loan cycle is just nuts! I did a $1,200 loan with CashNetUSA over the internet and did all the extensions, etc. I finally paid it off completely with my paycheck that was direct deposited today. The last draft they took was for $800.00. I actually made myself add up how much I really paid for that $1,200 loan and after all the interest I paid over $2,568.00! I paid more in interest than the entire amount I borrowed. I just can not believe how much a clutch these companies have on us all. Today is my payday so after they took the $800 out I now have $12.44 to live on for the next 2 weeks until payday hits again. I am so tempted to get another loan just to be able to survive. Should I get another payday loan or should I just wait it out till 9/18 and get overdraft fees from my bank for $35 a pop? I would have to have 39 overdraft fees at $35 each to equal the interest I paid to CashNetUSA! I hate getting overdrafts with my bank but what should I do? I think I can make it through the weekend without cash but next week I will need to get groceries. Any advise?

You need to consider how many overdrafts you will incur if you don't have the cash. Will 6 o/d @ $35 a pop be less than what you would pay to CashNet? (6 x 35 = $210). Also, if you o/d your account, do you run the risk that the bank will close it on you and report you to checksystems?

I am NOT saying that you SHOULD get another PDL, I am just pointing out some facts that you might want to consider. Also, can you borrow some money from family or friends to tide you over until next payday?

If you do get a PDL, just make sure it is enough to hold you over and that you can pay it back in full the next payday. Not doing so is one of the reasons they keep us in the "trap."

I have no gold except to sell at all. I am going to stick it out for awhile and see how long I can go until I have to get another payday loan. If I do have to get one it will be for only what I need to make it till 9/18. I have no friends that I would ask to borrow money from and my family doesn't have money to loan me. I will just hang in there for awhile. I agree with you desperiatleyseekingsanity about the overdraft fees. 6 o/d's would be more than paying for another pdl. I will try and ride this one out as long as I can. When I get home today I am looking for stuff to sell on ebay fast.

I've been in the same position! Before I would take out a payday loan I would make the following suggestion. Make a list of everything you will need to get through the week from the store and fill up your car with gas. I did this and ended up with two overdraft charges but managd to get through the week! Most banks wont close you out after only a week in the negative!

angell,
I bank at Capital One and I have had overdraft fees in the past but not for more than about 2 days at a time. I would rather deal with capital one bank on my checking account than to deal with another payday loan. I have been awake at night wondering if I could ever stop myself and this payday loan cycle and I am going to try like heck to make it through this time.

You can do it :) I tell myself the same things when the times are tough and I have had my share here recently :(

I just sit back and tell myself I can make it. It's hard when the weekend gets here and you want to go somewhere. I spent the weekend cleaning my house and finding items to either e-bay, craigslist and goodwill. I listed the items I found to sell and actually made a litlle pocket money that week! The stuff for Goodwill I put aside so I did't have to use any more gas than was necessary. And I had a clean house in the end!

It seems like once the work week gets here it goes by pretty fast. Once I did this I have found there are little ways I can save money and find things to do with the kids that are pretty cheap.

Angell,
You are so right and I know I can do it. This weekend I will plan to spend quailty time with my daughter at home and get some stuff together for ebay and goodwill. The one thing that keeps me going is thinking that I atleast have a place to live and food to eat and that there are many other people that are far worse off than I am. I am just so grateful I found this website.

maybe check with your bank and see if they have an overdraft protection plan/account. Because you will not only get an overdraft fee from the bank, but if they return your check to who you wrote it out to, they will also tack on a fee along with the banks overdraft. Just something to check into. But CONGRATS!!! on getting the payday loan paid in full :D If you do have to take out another loan, make sure it is just enough to cover you until then and pay it off right away (but I am sure you already know that) Good luck!

I think between everyone here that maybe we could help give some suggestions that might help you?

Do you have a car? If you do, do you HAVE to drive to work? Could you carpool, take the bus, walk to work and take your daughter to school/daycare etc?

Is it just you and your daughter, or does she not live with you? How old is she, if she goes to school, is she on a school breakfast and lunch program?

Can you do any babysitting for anyone else, that is cash in hand. You could always put a note up at churches, schools, daycares, community centers, other sorts of places.

Do a thorough cleanout of your kitchen cabinents, refrigerator, freezer. You might be able to avoid buying any groceries just by using up the cans of soup, vegetables, frozen burritos etc that always seem to get shoved to the back when the new stuff gets put on the shelves. Top Ramen goes a long way for .20 cents a piece, a can of tuna is enough protein for 2 stretched meals. Sure they might be old or not the best nutrition, but if it is the difference between eating and not eating, or worse yet, taking another payday loan, there are a lot worse options. My husband existed for a couple of weeks on (no joke) dog treats and tea with no milk or sugar when he was in a bad way before we met.

Good luck and hopefully we can all help you?

I didn't even think to have a garage sale. That is a great idea. Thanks for that. I am going to get stuff together this weekend and have a garage sale in the next week or so. I do have overdraft protection at my bank - thank heaven. I am just going to scrap on by and not get another payday loan. For the first time in months I actually slept last night without waking in the middle of the night in terror wondering how in the world I would ever pay my pdl off. I just thank everyone here for their support so much.

That's what we're here for! It's tough and when you have kids it makes it eve worse, especially this time of year when school starts. Just talking to you has made me decide that I am going to get out in my garage this weekend and prepare to have a yard sale of my own :)

There are ways to work things out and sometimes it just helps to bounce ideas back and forth (and have a place to vent when it seems you can't do it)

I hope you and your daughter have a great weekend!

i know times are tough but maybe you can make this work. is there an area food pantry for you to go to? Our area has a pretty decent one, i had to use it before and they had pasta, milk, juice, sauce, veggies, it really wasn't bad. and it was not as embarrsing as you would think - it's ran by a local church and everyone there was volunteer, meaning they enjoyed helping people and did not judge.
