I wonder why it took 5 business days to get the money transferred from one computer to another computer. The money was sent from my account on the 1st. my bank was fast enough to send the payment but the receiving end was pretty slower.
Has anyone gone through this problem and have a solution. I am quite frustrated with bill paying these days.

Envelope by which the payment was mailed should be saved so that the dates can be proven. If it is delivered before the due date, late fees should not be imposed on the bill. Pay the bills keeping plenty of time in advance. This will help it to get it delivered on time. Banks also take some time to process the payments.

There are some options available while you make the payments. You can choose the date on which the company should receive the payment from you. Some banks offer Quicken Access facilities available.
Talk to your bank and make your payment arrangements. They might send a bank check to your credit company 4-5 days in advance and then debit the money from your bank account on the due date.

I used the online billing facility when it was introduced. It was during that time, I went through some problems. I had to stop using this service as I had to fight regularly with my creditors over the late charges. I didn't like to lose interest from my checking account and add extra interest on the credit card account on late payments.
I stopped using this service and now I make payments on each of the lender's website through their online payment service. I am able to see my unbilled purchases, list of all the payments made. All the payments go to my account on that day and money is taken out from my checking account on the next day. I take the reference # and receipt for the payment to keep a track of the possible errors.
This way I am able to save some interest on each day in my checking account. Credit card interests are rising higher and I just don't want to pay them the extra money as interest if it is possible from my end.

I make the payments through my bank's website. Bank mails the checks to the companies in most cases. To be in the safe side, I always prefer giving them a week's time so that money reaches the other end in time. But I suspect that the bank checks the money quickly. It is the receiving end that is quite slower in cashing the check.

It is better to pay by check through certified mail and return receipt. You know that the check will be cashed in a day or two and the debt will be paid.
