I've been at the same job for about 18 months now, garnishments have started and I don't have any accounting of the debts being collected. I know Asset Acceptance is involved, they've been the worst hound after me all these years, they've gone as far as to threaten having a Sheriff enter a friends home and auction their property. I have a short temper when it comes to them and would prefer a professional handle that business.
My question is what is my best approach? A credit report? Where do I get one that I can believe? Debt counselors and loan sharks are a dime a dozen in Michigan these days, how can I find a reliable service? Is there a service that will actually investigate all of my debts so that I may take action to become free and clear?
There are assorted debts, credit cards, bank debts, student loans, etc...
Thanks in advance for any solid advice.
Getting copies of your credit reports is probably the best place
Getting copies of your credit reports is probably the best place to start. You can go to annualcreditreport.com and request your free annual reports from all three of the major credit bureaus.
I'm not sure about a service that would do all of the investigating for you, but maybe someone else will have some ideas . . .
You will also need to consider the statute of limitations because if you start paying on accounts that have passed the SOL, I think it might start the clock ticking again. Someone else should be better able to advise you on that point also.
Alright, I used annualcreditreport.com and got 2 of the 3 report
Alright, I used annualcreditreport.com and got 2 of the 3 reports, Experian and Trans Union... they both had 1 negative item on them, one was already paid and should go away soon and the other was expected to disappear in a month.
I know there is more than that, hopefully it is all on the Equifax report, which unfortunately I have to mail in a request for.
I could see where Asset Acceptance has been checking up on me via Experian.
Thanks for the tips, it looks like a long road, but at least I'm pointed in the right direction now.
