Debt collection attorneys?

Sometime ago I had gotten a call from a Mitchell...someone. I should say a female rep had called me. Telling me about a debt I had with a furniture company.......a debt that is probably 15 years old now and, some years ago, the furniture store went out of business. I tried to call the number back and the number was disconnected. How can the number be disconnected when someone called ME on it? Difficult to say, I guess. When the woman spoke to me, she wanted to "verify" things. Why should I verify anything with her when she wouldn't even answer MY questions? Also......back then, I lived in a different place and had a different phone number. Had did a CA get my current number? Any suggestions?

Some CA;s "spoof" other phone numbers. As for getting your current number, there are companies that that sell this info to CA's. They were able to get my cell phone number that is not in my name, but in my son's name.
