How to found out who own debt???????

If ca cant proof they own the debt . How can I found out who own its ??? So I can make a settlement .
On my credit reports just shows charge off
2 of the oc ( sears and ge )just say they sold it off but cant tell me who too??? that doesnt seem right

I am going through my creadit report and i found that calling the Original creditor was very helpful. They were not able to talk to me about the account but gave the number to who owns it now.
If the OC can't tell you, and the CA can't verify that they own
If the OC can't tell you, and the CA can't verify that they own it, then I'm not sure how you would find out. Hopefully, someone else will have some ideas! :?
If the CA doesn't own it, then someone is paying them to collect
If the CA doesn't own it, then someone is paying them to collect -- they don't do their job for free. The CA should be able to tell you who they are collecting for. If they refuse, send a DV.
