Hi,

Please help! NCO has started calling my mother, who is 82 and has to hobble to the phone. I intend to send a debt validation letter to them when I get paid next week. Is there a way I can get them to stop calling her now? She is hoping they will tell her about my financial business, which is not what I want. I know that it is illegal for NCO to do this, since she is a third party, but they have already told her they are a collection agency. Who knows what else they will tell her?

I am waiting because I do not have enough money to send it. I will do so, as soon as I get my check sometime this week. No, I do not live in the same state as my mother.

Yes, definitely, fax them the letter today (Monday, 9-22-2008), then follow up with a CMRRR. Be sure to keep a copy of the fax report as your copy of proof they received it, along with green signature card you get back from sending it CMRRR.

Back in the day, when I was unemployed and couldn't afford to send every DV/C&D letter CMRRR (18cents/page vs $5/letter) I sent pretty much all of them by fax. I even sued a CA for ignorng my letter, using only the fax confirmation I received as proof of receipt, and the CA settled out of court. So, I'm not sure if faxing a DV letter, using the fax confirmation as proof, would always hold up; however, just relating my own personal experience. I was always careful to state clearly on the cover page, how many total pages I was sending, advising the CA to contact me by phone (I put the number on the cover page) if they didn't receive all pages, and also advising them the fax confirmation page I receive back would be proof of their receipt of my DV/C&D letter.

I must have sent about 20 all total, and only had about 3 or 4 CA's choose to ignore the letter. One I sued, and the other two, once I reminded them they had received this letter (either by talking to them by phone, or by sending another one by fax) they then honored it. I have even received a few response back advising they couldn't validate the debt and it was sent back to the OC. You can be I am carefully holding onto those letter.

I'm curious to see if any others have sent letters by fax and what their experiences have been.

NCO is horrible to work with!! They have tried to call me ,several times, about an old debt ( 10 years..or so) and wanted me to pay the bill right then. It woas an old gas bill that was under my ex;s name ( like a few bills in the past..). From what NCO said, they contacted my ex before they contacted me,,,NCO said my ex said that I will pay the 10 year old bill ( as I said, not in my name). Here's ANOTHER 'funny' thing about this debt. The phone number they said they had, for my ex, to call him, has been disconnected for 3 years, or so ( I know that for a fact!!) I've asked for validation for this debt. NCO says they "can't give me anything because it's in my ex's name." I think they just contridicted themselves because THEY are calling ME for a payment. Geez.............how strange is this!?

LOL!

Very strange sdchargers 63! They want you to pay your ex's bill; however, they will not give you anything in writing because it doesn't have your name on it? While the phone number they advise they have for your ex is incorrect? And they advised they talked to your ex and he advised you would pay it?

Sounds like they're trying to BS you, big time.

If it were me, I would just send them a complete C&D, telling them it's not your bill and for them to go after your ex for it and leave you the heck alone!

What idiots!
