You cannot be arrested for defaulting on your debts, but when/if you come back, you would be facing quite a mess. If you are gone long enough, you would come back to find your credit record in tatters, because once the creditors find they cannot contact you by phone or mail at the address/phone number they have for you, they will proceed with sending your accounts to collection, then take you to court to try and get a judgement against you for non-payment, and at that point, your credit will be in pretty bad shape.

Have you thought about contacting your credit card companies and seeing if they are willing to work with you. I know that it can be hard and stressful to think about much less try to deal with but I believe at least trying to deal with it rather than ignore it and worry all the time is a better solution.
The company may waive fees, give you a lower interest, or lower your monthly payments. It is worth a try anyways. I don't know if you are in a place to try and settle the account but that is a possibility also.
