The court is highly unlikely to make you pay in a lump sum if it is not possible. Also unless your car is a highly valuable it should be safe if you make the agreed/ordered payments.
How old is the debt?
Have you actually received a summons or are they telling you that a case was filed? Check with the court to find out for sure.
If you have the info on the agency send them a DV letter, certified mail, return receipt.

I thought only the Credit Card Company (Bank) could sue and not

First off, CA's don't have the standing to sue, only DC attorneys or attorneys working for the OC. Who is suing you? It should be listed on the summons and complaint. What state do you live in? When was the last time you paid on the account? Is it reporting? if so, how? What else came with the summons? An affadavit? Requests for production of documents or admissions? A questionaire?
