Wanting to file but don't have the money

I have tried getting help from legal aid, but they said I don't meet the income guidelines. I have contacted several attorneys to see what their fees were and they all range between $800-$1200. I don't have the money to pay them that, and even though they offer installments, I have a judgement against me and I wanted to file for bankruptcy immediately to stop the judgement. So, I don't have enough money to file and I make too much to get legal aid. Has anyone here been in this situation and what did you do?


Often times once you retain a lawyer creditors will back off, and wait. That could buy you some time in order to pay the lawyer. Also are you still paying any of your creditors? Cause if you going to file you can bascially stop payments to most everyone (not rent and utlities) and pay the lawyer. Do you have anything you can sell to get the money?

Guest, I can relate to what you're saying! It's totally ridiculous that if a person is at the point where they feel the need to file BK they can't freakin afford to do so! Grrrrrrrrrr. But ya know, there is a member here who filed BK on her own, her name here is Goudah, I know she's been very busy lately and hasn't had time to post here at the forum, you might shoot her a PM to find out how she went about it and whether that would be an option for you!

I am paying back some of the creditors because I'm afraid of getting sued again. And one of them that I am paying is one who sued me already and got a judgement, I 'm afraid that one day I will notice that my money is gone out of my bank account. I don't make that much and I don't know why I can't get legal aid, I make only $400 a month because I work only freelance, it's not steady work.

Shazzers, it is ridiculous, I feel like I'm running out of time. I don't even want the legal representation, just someone to help me fill out the papers so I don't make any mistakes.
