Help with my credit report

Now:
I got a copy of my credit report today. It has on it a negative account for midland credit management out of CA for an Aspire Visa. It shows as having a date of last payment as 4/06 and last reported in 12/06. I don't even remember having this account. Is there any way to find out when it was opened, what charges/payments were made, etc?

Will that work even though it looks like they are a third party
Will that work even though it looks like they are a third party collection agency? I thought debt validation would only work on original creditors?
