Anyone had any dealings with them? Shady or not?

They are a law firm. They called my husband at work regarding our Washington Mutual account and the person I spoke to told me they are preparing to file suit and we should settle. I mentioned a validation letter and she gave me a nervous giggle. I can't find anyone who has dealt with them. Plus, they are in California and we are in Oklahoma. How do I find out if they have offuces here?

This Law Firm is shady and use bad collection tactics- They used an invalid proof of service to get a judgement. I will be reporting them to all the agencies and California Bar

OMG...this company is legit and is a law firm...My husband has been constantly harrassed by Mark Sosa a collector from hell for months now....he will refuse to transfer the call to a supervisor.....and will sit there and argue to the point that he made a threat to him....he will try to be-little him all the time...they served my minor child with court documents....for a judgement with no court date at all....which by the way is illegal...I finally got a hold of the VP of the firm.....Larry Lawson and was able to settle this account once and for all. Bad business...

The standard for validation is pretty low, but most debt collection agencies and law firms will not send a written response unless they are actually collecting the debt. After you know they have a debt that is yours, and the debt is within the statute of limitations in your state, then work on a settlement that you can afford. You should never just settle unless you are sure it is your debt they are legitimately collecting.
Threats and belittling may be violations of the FDCPA and maybe even the laws in your state are there to protect you from illegal harassment. Keep in mind, just because they may have filed suit does not mean they can win the case. There are many defenses and the requirement that they actual prove the debt with admissible evidence.
