Pull your credit reports and see if a judgement is being reported. Also, either call the courts or check online to see if a judgement has been filed against you. WHO hung up? The collector or your husband?
I'm a collector and find it hard to believe a collector would be that stupid as to hang up.
There should be no problem if you're willing to pay.
Call the agency back, tell someone you want to pay, make sure they have the right account info, ask them to send you a letter stating that upon receipt of the agreed amount the account is paid in full. Tell them you want the letter faxed to you before you pay.
