Ok so they called me today and said I owe $839 on a $300 loan. First I was told one amount then I was told I owed the 839 then I was told I need to pay $600 by Wednesday. I asked for a dv and then I hung up. Immediately, I sent to the address I found a cease and desist, ach revocation, filed another complaint with my AG and filed a complaint with BBB. I owe money which is $30, I am not paying anyone $839 plus the $270 I have already paid. Not to mention all the grief and headache. I know they are collecting for Chieftan which is loan point-another one of their aliases. What else should I do at this point?

Sending a debt validation letter is the best way to ask for validation of the debt from a collection agency.

Don't assume for which company the collection agency is collecting for. A DV will work.
If they don't reply back your first DV letter then send a second DV.
If they still don't reply then send a cease and desist letter and file complaint with the Attorney General and BBB.

nice effort crustucean, but DV should only be sent out once.when the CA receives the DV and C&D letter sent certified mail return receipt.all collection action must stop.along with all phone contact, only usps should be stated in the C&D letter.if a CA can validate and most can't.the person they are attemptng collections should get validation in the mail.
in short, one DV and C&D letter should be sufficient.if the CA ignores the C&D letter, then you file AGand FTC complaints.
