I am SOOO confused... I thought a FICO score was the main credit score, and that there was only 1 of them. So I went on Fico dot com, and it shows a different score for each of the 3 Credit Reporting Agencies? Help explain please!

I had the same doubt as you. It got cleared very recently.

Credit Scores are formulated on the basis of information available in the credit report. The big 3 have their own ways of collecting credit report information. So, many times credit report information differ from bureau to bureau. When the basic set of information gets changed, consequently the credit score also gets changed. In addition, every credit bureau has its own mechanism for evaluating credit score.

FICO is a third party credit scoring system which evaluates credit worthiness of a person. Many lenders use this score to assess credit worthiness of a person.

There are like 27 different FICO scores depending on who's requesting them (mortgage lenders, auto loans, CC's). More often what you see is the Vantage Score which is what the credit card companies look at. I've heard it called the "sucker score" because CC's count on you carrying a balance from month to month and paying them lots of interest.

The reason you are seeing 3 different scores is because usually, not every tradeline is reported on all 3 reports.

question of the day ... I am trying out FICO.com and their "Score Watch" product ... Instead of having just one score, I would like to have all 3, plus monitoring, plus alerts when the score changes. But they don't seem to have a product that covers all 3, on a monthly basis. Yes I know I can buy them all 1 time, but not every month. Or am I looking at their product grid incorrectly?
