I recieved a check in the mail from fia card services NA, trying to find out if this is a real check or not..
Were you expecting a refund from them? If not, be suspicious.

Aside from checking out what the local bank has to say about it, make sure you read all of the fine print...it may detail that cashing that check may mean you enter into some kind of an agreement with them with excutiating interest rates, etc.
