Last year I became painfully aware of the huge impact of collections on my credit report, especially medical collections. My wife decided we needed to buy a house even though I didn't think that it was a viable proposition at the time. My credit was less than stellar and hers had a judgement and several medical collection accounts on it. We did apply and we were approved for a non-applicant spouse loan. The problem was it was a $150,000 15 year loan. There was no way we could afford that! That was the first wake up call that I received on the importance of a consumers credit report. This morning as I was driving home from work, I was listening to one of the radio shows in Dallas. (I have been listening to Rodney Anderson for several years and find his advice to be very sound. He is a local mortgage lender and he was one of the companies that my wife and I applied with. They were the company that approved us for the loan that we really couldn't afford so we had to pass.)
Anyway...the thing that caught my ear was the fact that, out of 1701 mortgage applications that were processed over the last 30 days, 776 (46%) of those were affected by medical collections. Of those 776, there were more than 3000 tradelines reported. This has to stop. Rodney has launched a petition to have medical collections deleted within 30 days of payment. Here is a quote form his site:

A medical collection account can strike without warning. Perhaps a Doctor's office or hospital failed to send a bill, or didn't have a current address for you. Maybe there was a miscommunication with an insurance provider. Whatever the reason, these collections can wreak havoc on your credit. Many times, you may not even be aware they exist until it's too late, and the damage has already been done to your FICO scores. I believe that millions of Americans are unfairly penalized as a result of these accounts, and that, within 30 days of having been paid off, they should be PERMANENTLY removed from a client's credit report. If you agree, and would like to be part of a monumental movement to make a change in the credit reporting system, click below to sign my petition. Join me in making a difference.

Guys and Gals...I see these posts everyday...medical collections hitting our reports for minor amounts with collection agencies who refuse to negotiate Pay for Deletes. No one should suffer from the impact of medical collections on their credit reports. I implore you to help Rodney and yourselves. Exercise your rights as Americans. Make a difference!
