Seeking some input from everyone.. I went with a debt settlement company in early July. My accounts are now 3 months past due. I have 16 credit cards (I KNOW, SICK) and 3 have now gone to collections. Last night my Mom called and one of the collection agency (encore) called her looking for me. I totally feel like a failure and then to have them call my Mom. I have not talked with any of the creditors and I have been avoiding picking up the phone. The other 2 went with GC Services Collection company.

In your experience, is it common for them to call you neighbors and family? How do I get them to stop that? Do I need to start talking with them on the phone?

I don't know if I can handle this process for 2 to 3 years and the fear of them contacting someone other than me. It's embarrassing.

Anyone else gone through this process or going through it?

I will be contacting my debt settlement company tomorrow for their input, but now I'm wondering what services I actually bought from them!!!!

I would definitely be concerned if I was working with a debt settlement company and was still being contacted by creditors...I hope you get a direct answer from them tomorrow.

In the mean time, they will most definitely do what they have to in order to track you down. I would recommend talking to them and answering the calls...that way you'll be able to make it clear that your phone number is the best way to contact you. At this point, they aren't contacting you in any other way so in their eyes - they don't have a choice but to try and contact family, etc.

Stressed out, Most debt settlement companies are worthless.
If you call the CA's, you will probably be more stressed, because of their attitudes and threats.
I would send DV letters to the CA's along with a C&D letter advising them to stop calling your mom and other friends and relatives to contact you by US mail only.

I contacted my debt settlement company and they basically told me that I needed to send a C&D letter to that company. Which I have done. I asked the company what are they doing for me, they included we are working with the CA's for settlements, sending them all power of attonery on those accounts. I'm really trying to save up money to settle these all sooner then waiting 3 years....

I'm an emotion wreck... I just a failure and what I have done to myself! I'm trying to tell myself I will get through this!!!!
