deleting negative items and raising score...

I don't much care about the money aspect so much, I just want them off my report. Is it worth contacting the agencies and requesting them to delete the entries. Is this possible? I have never heard of it untill I started looking here.
I am going to be leaving my job in 8 months, my family will be subsiting on one income (husbands). I need to get our credit scores up enough to consolidate two cars into one and not get ripped of. Husband has no collections... just never had credit untill recently (like 3 years ago). I've got negative items from a reckless youth, have cleared that up recently (last month the final payment was made). How many points should it go up within the next 6-7 months? I'm at low 500's right now... any advice will be helpful.

I would dispute the paid collections with all 3 CRA's. Since they already have their money, they might not waste the time to verify. If they don't verify w/in the 30-45 day time frame, the CRA's must delete.

I had the same problem with a library book when I moved (found it mixed in with my books), I contacted the library to see if I could mail it back, and even though it was something like 2 years late, they gave me the address to mail it back, and charged me a $5.00 late fee. And this was in a pretty big city, so every library district is probably different.

HIPPA? The only thing I know about HIPPA is where I work...private policy, can't breach confidents...that sort of thing. How would this apply for a medical bill?

Also...I read on this forum, and found out from different people, that hospitals are starting to do Credit checks on people. (Of course I'm saying this sarcastically..) but, if you have bad credit, then you won't have treatment?! That's crazy!! NO hospital should refuse treatment to anyone.
