I just discovered a judgement from a mortgage company on my credit report. I divorced in 2002 and defaulted on my mortgage. The amount is $2000. They have not collected on the judgment. I am not sure what to do. Should I call them to make payment arrangements? I don't want to open up this can of worms without getting some advice. I don't have a problem paying it. I am just worried that they will garnish my wages or my bank account. This judgment took place in Texas and I now live in California.

If you pay it they wont garnish your wages. However if you continue not to do anything there is the possibility of them garnishing your wages. If this is six years old i would assume they can't or aren't going to pursue it...not to say its okay to leave it out there...i dont know the statue of limitation for judgment's and how long they will affect your credit left unpaid. Maybe someone more educated in that area can chime in.

They would first need to domesticate the judgement to CA. Do a search for UEFJA. If they area able to have the judgement domesticated, here are some links for CA:
You will find the Payday loan laws for California here (just select your state),
