I have an outstanding debt of $8424 and spoke with collection attorney about payments. They informed me there would be a judgement filed in the county I live in. What does that mean? They said I needed to contact an attorney to get that information. I am in Montgomery County, Texas.

A judgement means they are going to get a court order for you to pay.

In order for the judgement to be valid, they must serve your with a summons (PROPERLY!!) and give you the opportunity to answer as per state law.

That's just a little information...but I'm sure someone who knows much more will be along soon :)

Sounds fishy, if the summons is real, you should have been served at least 30 days ago in order to respond to the court.
Contact your county clerks office to see if the summons is legit; if it is, make sure that you appear in court on that day or a judgement will be issued against you.

Go to the Montgomery county website and check the justice of the peace and district court records to see if your name appears. What else came with the summons? An affadavit. request for production of documents or admissions? Who is suing you? When was the last time you paid on the account? Is this the first communication you have recieved?
