Loan Default

I defaulted on a loan for $6607. back in 2004 with Household Finance. It was charged off on 05/2006. It has been sold several times and I just recently received a call from Taylor Pc Lawfirm that wanted me to call them by a certain time or they were going to send me court. I have never received any information that they purchased the loan. I looked into my credit report and it looks like a midland credit management purchased the loan and resubmitted it back into my credit report, but with a balance of $8991. Is this possible? And should I contact the Lawfirm or Midland Credit?

What state do you live in? When was the last payment on the account? Is HSBC as well as Midland reporting on your reports? It could be possible that with interest and other fees that the balance could have balooned up to a pretty sizeable sum but only if the cardholder agreement spelled it out.
