That kind of a call is very unpleasant...but happily...that's all it is. You are not going to go to jail and you're coworkers are not going to jail. Period.
I'm guessing this is all stemming from an internet pay day loan...Do you remember which company you borrowed from and for how much? Also...how much did you actually pay back?
Take a look at what people have said on the Pay Day Loan board. Many have experienced the kind of call you're talking about. You'll have to start a process of sending C&D letters, etc. I don't have all of the specifics on how to get that done...but I guarentee you'll find it on this site.

Have all of your co-workers write down exactly what was said to them and get it notorized. Then find yourself an attorney and make some money for fdcpa violations!! Hopefully it was a collection agency that called you and not the creditor itself.

I'm thinking this company is illegal, get your letters out. For that, I'd report them to the Attorney General's office, as wells as the BBB and the FTC. That threat is not legal, nor is it legal to share your personal info (someone correct me if I am wrong but that cannot be right!)
I got a call
I rec'd a call from a guy Named Marcus his number was 716-602-7911 and he said there was an attorney named Donald Jemison that would sue me and issue an warrent for my arrest for my unpaid payday loan if i didnt pay it today. I said i would pay but when i called the moneygram to wire the account that started asking me a bunch of questions and i realized that this guy was a collection shark who bought my loan from the payday loan place and was harrassing me. I reported his telephone harrassment to the Federal Trade Commission and I also called the better business bureau to see if there was really such a place as the Department of Check Services. I was not the only inquiry they had about this said Department. So i called this Marcus guy back...who was calling me from a cell phone! Sorry but ifyou work for the government I doubt i would get a call from a cell phone! I told him if he couldnt produce the papers to me to prove my debt then I owed him nothing. ITs my right as a debt payer to request all info in writing and he has to comply according to the FTC. I told him to produce paperwork and then he could get his money. Until then i said you can sue me and garnish my wages. He told me he would send me paper work after i paid and i promptly hung up in his lying little face!
completely illegal
For any collector to disclose the amount owed by you on the debt. All they are allowed to say is there name, company, where they are located and contact info. For them to threaten you and disclose the information on your debt is violation of fdcpa, especially if it is 3rd party..sue their butts.

I had the same guy call me!! and get this!!, I have already sent them a wire transfer of $175 for an unpaid payday loan. I applied for two loans over the internet in December of '07. These two loans have come back to haunt me! When i applied for these loans my wallet was stolen a month later. I tried contacting the payday loan companies for a pay off but their phone numbers were no longer in service! And now i am being contacted by marcus again! He told me yesterday that my other account has surfaced and i need to give him $466 by Feb 13th. The first loan I paid off in early december because of their scare tactic. I was told by this company that charges were pending against me. When I wired the $175 I was really uncomfortable that my payment was going directly to a Donald Jemison. Apparently he is an attorney. When marcus contacted me I questioned why payment was not directed to the origional bank i owed. He explained that Donald Jemison's law firm is collecting for this bank and all payments go into his escrow. I asked for papers as well so he emailed me a settlement offer. This particular email states that the original loan amount was for $780. This is not correct. I borrowed $300. I know this company will keep calling me with threats. If i dont wire the $466 Im sure i will receive a call telling me that charges are pending against me. what do i do?!!

Tell them to make sure that you are picked up early enough for dinner, hate to sit in jail hungry.
No, I jest. They are not going to arrest you and are in violation of the law for even saying it. If and when they call tell them that you are recording the conversation and if they say they don't consent tell them they should hang up then.
If the email does not have a physical address, then ask for their postal address so that you can send them a debt validation letter.
If this is the first contact regarding the other loan then they are required to send you a letter giveing you details of the debt. If they call tell them that you are waiting for the legally required letter detailing the debt. And you would like the address so that you can send the debt validation letter.
They are probably doing it because it worked the first time, since you paid them.
