if i owe capital one for an old charge off account, do i really owe this new collection company who bought the bad debt?

even if the account has been charged off it still get interest added on per the agreement you signed to get the card.

I had one that had a $200 limit, but by the time it went to a couple different CA's it was up to $1500  I did get one to settle for $800.

Send a validation letter to the CA and see what all the extra charges are for. You can get one in the DIY section. And don't forget to send it cert. mail with return reciept requested.

Make the collection agency who says they purchased the debt prove it - most can't.[/quote]

Question: What would constitute acceptable/valid proof to establish that a debt was sold? I understand that many of these companies have nothing beyond a spreadsheet, so they're obiously out of luck. What would you be looking to see?
