Long ago, and far away, I had a Providian credit card. In 2004 I defaulted and about that time, Washington Mutual bought Providian. I have Washington Mutual and LVNV on my credit report. Now that Chase has taken over WAMU, I am wondering if Chase owns my defaulted account, or does LVNV still own it?
My account is almost SOL. I worry Chase could sue me because I have another account with Chase, in good standing.

Does the WaMu/Providian tradeline show a $0 balance and a sold/transferred to another lender notation? If so, then you need not worry about Chase suing you. They are out of the picture completely. LVNV is a junk debt buyer so they likely own the account. You probably won't see a change to the OC tradeline but LVNV will update monthly. The only worry I would have is if Chase pulls your reports for an Account Review, they might see that you defaulted on that account and might jack you interest rate up because of it. Slim possibility but it could happen.
