Anyone have ANY ideas here? I am SO frustrated and have called the law office a few times. The paralegal said last week, "well, hopefully the payment will clear soon and we can get moving".
YIKES!

two weeks.your right YIKES!!!!!!! can you go to this lawyers office in person and let them know.
a)the pdl is going to debit the account again.
b)wth is taking so long to take the payment.
seriously i would look into another way if this lawyer is going to play you around like a few scammers i see on this site.

well, it is an online PDL...not located in this state...and I really do believe they are legit...i have spoken to two different people on the phone from there. I think if they were not, they would have cleared the payment from me and THEN begun to drag their feet. I think they are just really busy and normally are settling debts that are not quite as urgent? I don't know. The only other laywer I have spoken to (a local one) said it would cost more for him to figure all of this out than it would to just pay the thing.

tell me what you think
OOOPS I meant an online law office not PDL in the first line

I would stop payment on the check you sent to them and send them a money order. They are not going to begin working on your case until they are paid so whats one more delay, this way you can close your account and not pay the pdl's. Just make sure you explain to the law office what you are doing, they should completely understand.

Thank you Paul, just my honest thoughts and what I myself would do in that situation.

Actually, I gave them my account info for a debit from my checking account! I didn't even write a check! AND, if I close the account, then the PDL will know something is up and try to start after me...don't you think? I asked the law office if there was any way I could pay them faster...paypal, western union, they said only paypal and that would take another 4-5 days.

You need to protect your interests. In my opinion you should close your account and block all ach debits (hard freeze) and pay your lawyer some other way. The pdl's will not know you closed your account until the bank returns their attempt to debit which is usually several days after they try to withdraw money from your account, this will buy you several more days. I have been a paypal customer for years and you can make instant payments with them. You need to stop thinking about what might happen and instead concentrate on protecting yourself from anymore pdl debits which is sure to happen unless you take action. By paying your online lawyer via your checking account has just given someone else (who you really dont know) access to your account. One thing I learned from all of this pdl stuff is that I will never give my account information out again to anyone. Good luck.
Sounds like very good advice, k, I am going to do this. Thank y

Just an update...I FINALLY got ahold of someone at the lawgroup and they went ahead and sent over my letter and power of attorney to the PDL trusting that my payment to them is pending. He said that they do "batch transactions" so sometimes they take from 10-15 business days. I also stopped payment on the cashsupply pmt set to come out on Friday. I am also going to take all of our money out of the checking account on Friday morning when we get paid and put it ina nother account, except for the $100 still owed to the lawyer. Anything else you think I should do?

You need to make sure that account is closed and a hard debit block put on it before the pdl's start debiting your account or you will end up in a sea of nsf charges and will be unable to close your account. I cannot repeat myself enough to tell you to stop that payment to your lawyer and pay another way. You do what you feel is right for you!!!! As soon as those pdl's get that letter they will start debiting your account. They are illegal and just as much as they cannot really do anything to you for not paying, technically an attorney cannot do anything to them if they are not in this country. The pdl's use other dba's so your bank may not recognize one because it will be presented as something other than what it is being presented as currently.
I dont know what companies you are dealing with but if they are illegal internet companies they are ruthless and will stop at nothing.
I absolutetly agree w/ everyone. Close the acct. and pay the law
I absolutetly agree w/ everyone. Close the acct. and pay the law group another way cause these pdl companies will withdraw!
GOOD NEWS!
My bank finally stepped up to the plate! They are going to redirect the direct deposits into another account we have with them so I can close this account today. I am guessing I will need to open an account with an entirely different bank now, as I have read, but at least tomorrow our funds are safe. Thanks for your advice, everyone.
One more question though...explain please the closing of the account AND the hard freeze...what does hard freeze mean when an account is closed?
Thanks again...
By the way, if I didn't post this...the law office told me not to worry about their paymente not clearing, just close the account and send a money order or pay via paypal. They were very cool about it.
ooops! I wasn't logged on...that was me! Now trying to fix pay
